TightVNC Portable

Submitted by Tatsh on April 18, 2007 - 11:14pm

This includes the viewer and the server, as separate NSIS .exes.

TightVNC stores registry entries in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ORL and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL. Both .exes will save the current (if existant) entries and then store the ones in Data\settings folder. Then vice versa when the programs exit.

Perhaps the server is not very handy to most, but I would definitely prefer to not have IP addresses I connect to remain in the registry in whatever computer I decide to use.

FileZilla Portable 2.2.32 Pre-Release 2 (Testers Needed)

I've just posted a pre-release of FileZilla Portable 2.2.32. In addition to the usual update of FileZilla, this new release includes an updated launcher (hence the pre-release test). The launcher now stores your settings within the FileZillaPortable\Data\settings directory. On launch, it moves them to the FileZillaPortable\App\filezilla directory so FileZilla can use them. On exit, it moves them back. This way, it automatically works with PortableApps.com Backup without the extra hack that was doing it earlier.

Using PAM as "The" Start Menu

Submitted by Patrick Patience on April 17, 2007 - 8:20pm

Hey, I've packaged various resources from around this site and made a simple pack that allows you to feel like you're using the PortableApps Menu as the Windows Start Menu. So when you're on a hosts computer, you've got your own start menu with all of your programs. Read the Notes and take a look at the Previews first.

There's two downloads:

-Unicode

StepMania Portable

Submitted by Tatsh on April 15, 2007 - 9:50pm

"StepMania is a free dance and rhythm game featuring 3D graphics, dance pad support, and a step editor."

This is the latest intermediate (BETA) release (20070325). The program itself is under MIT license (used to be under GNU) and is open source. Source is located here. In the zip file are (non-copyrighted) sample songs and courses. All EXEs and DLLs were UPX'd by the developers.

My launcher does the following:

ThunderbirdPortable RC2

Submitted by chris0 on April 15, 2007 - 9:30am

Searched and didn't find anything on this....

I'm not sure if this is a Thunderbird issue or a ThunderbirdPortable issue, but the little twirling dealie (that's a technical term) that spins when Thunderbird is thinking (in the upper right hand corner of the window) never stops spinning after you check your mail once. The progress bar at the bottom which displays how far along you are with checking your mail also never disappears and shows 0%.

Not sure what else to say about the problem. Let me know if you need more info.

Comments on Mines-Perfect Portable 1.4 PRERELEASE

As the original Mines-Prefect post isn't accessible any more, I'm starting a new one.
I think this is because of Johns "lock all posts older than..."-operation and maybe a moderator can unlock the original and move my node there.

I like mines and its a shame I didn't discover the potable version earlier. It leaves nothing behind and should be included into the official Applist.

Brutal Chess Portable 0.5.2 Pre-Release 1

This is just a quick n dirty one. Compressed with a stub launcher and the C runtimes moved around. But it's a cool chess program. In 3d. And it's portable. Just hit ESC to bring up the menu to adjust settings, difficulty or exit. It doesn't maintain settings (The app itself doesn't do this yet). And it'll be slow on older PC hardware since it is 3d. But any PC made in the last few years should have no issues with it.

Well, here's my first one...
Google Video Player is a program that allows you to play downloaded Google Videos.
It would be cool if some of you geniuses out there could lend a hand in beta testing it.

Here is the download (273.03 KB):

OpenOffice.org Portable 2.2 Pre-Release (Testers Needed)

I've just posted a pre-release of OpenOffice.org Portable 2.2. As with the 2.1 pre-release, this version now includes a long-awaited feature: the ability to use Java from the portable device. This means you can use the OpenOffice.org functionality that depends on Java (Wizards, some Base functions, etc) even from a PC that doesn't have Java installed. (->read more in German)
