Eject script

Submitted by ozbodd on May 29, 2007 - 5:44am

This is a simple eject script made with AutoIT. LINK UPDATED 31th May

It searches for processes running from the USB drive and closes them gracefully - That is unsaved open files will prompt for saving - only caveats are if an app minimises to the tray when closed as in UTorrent (behaviour can be changed in the app) and USB Files opened with programs that are not on the USB drive will not close if they do not have the path in their child window title.

Install Portable Google Talk themes?

Submitted by foxcole on May 26, 2007 - 5:11pm

Apologies if this has been asked and answered, but I couldn't find any information about it....

I just discovered and installed Portable Google Talk and it's running like a charm, but I'd like to know whether there's a way to install themes for it (such as can be downloaded from the "themes" page here: http://www.customizetalk.com/). I'm stuck with just the "classic" theme for choice of appearances in the Settings dialog... but since there *is* an Appearance option there, I'd like to be able to use it.

Proposing "Not Portable Skype" - a set of installation tools for skype end-users

Submitted by port_er on May 26, 2007 - 5:51am

I am running a version of skype that I have made portable - thanks to the many suggestions here and on the web. It works fine so far as I have tested it.

It contains no skype information (i.e. no proprietary info).

It is a file structure with a set of tools (.bat batch files) that can be run
from anywhere (i.e. from a shortcut, using pstart). And the file structure can
be placed anywhere, including the desktop (which as you know has spaces in the
file path which can confuse some of the simpler batch file attempts).

You install the commercial skype app. Then you run:

Portable Toolkit Beta 1.0

I have put together a toolkit for making portable applications. This is for people who don't like NSIS and perfer AutoIt. It includes a code template for a launcher and a compressor script to compress a directory.

Supported formats for compression

  • EXE -- UPX
  • HTML -- Absolute HTML Compressor
  • ZIP -- 7-Zip
  • PNG -- Optipng

To add your own compression format simply create a new batch file in the helpers directory.

To enable pngout support download pngout to a folder under helpers name pngout. Open png.bat and uncomment the line of code.

Toucan 1.0 Prerelease 4 [Updated 2007-05-28]

This is mainly a bug fix release over Prerelease 1, so here's what you need to know.

  • The way the mirror works was completely overhauled, should be faster and more efficient.
  • The exclusions have been changed slightly, you need to put the leading dot in before file extensions
  • You cannot add a blank exclusion, keeps it nice and tidy!
  • Updated the manual
  • I think that there was something else but I can't remeber at the moment

Convey Portable .98b Release

Convey Portable v0.98b Portable Send To Manager

I created this little app to run when I insert my USB Drive. It basically takes a subfolder of application shortcuts on your portable drive and adds them to the current computer's Send To folder. For instance, if you like opening pdf files with Portable Sumatra instead of the Acrobat that is installed on the computer you're plugged into, you can just right-click the pdf file and choose Send To > Sumatra PDF Portable.

Well people here it is! The much anticipated Toucan 1.0 Prerelease 1 is now available to download here. A quick summary of the features available is here.

Also please note that at this time it is not hosted by PortableApps.com so all give your thanks to Ryan for hosting it. Finally you cannot in place upgrade this over PUSS as there have been a number of changes to the structure and naming and files that makes it incompatible.

Slax Linux Portable

Submitted by Paste2.0 on May 15, 2007 - 12:06am

This is an idea off the internet that i tweaked a bit,
it will also work with any Live Linux Distribution
and, it saves your settings to it's internal memory, unlike
Linux live CD's that you boot directly.
Tell me what you think of the idea.
