Called "Recommend Apps" for recommended applications that are already portable.
This should be the first link in it:
http://www.tinyapps.org/
and this should be the second:
http://www.xtort.net/office/floppyoffice.php
Also, http://www.nirsoft.net/ has some nifty stuff on the utility side.
(Really need to learn how to put <br>s in this)
Hey congrats on the new site. I love portable firefox and use it at work all the time. One question I have is this site just for the applications that you make portable or as a site cataloging all the different kind of apps that work on flash drives etc...
what I mean by cataloging is something like portablefreeware.com which is another great site which points to your portable apps.
just wondering but in any case love the new version. keep up the great work.
I would like to recommend a new general forum "Other Portable Apps" (Share your experiences with other portable apps here).
Thanks,
QB
I use several Java-executable apps on my USB thumb-drive. These should not require additional development (but this seemed the best forum anyway
PLCash.jar - a personal finance program
JTides.jar - a tides calculator
SatFinder.jar - a satellite finder (for television, hams, etc)
All the above can be found at http://www.arachnoid.com. Be sure to read the developer's statement about what he calls "CareWare".
Thanks for the great site and work on developing and collecting portable applications. Since i found out about portable firefox i've been installing less and less apps this makes me and windows registry happy.
now all we need is a portable registry so we can install anything
Now that i have all of this personal data on my portable drive i would like to know if anyone is using any kind of software that will encrypt or password protect the data on it.
ive seen some tools that will encrypt the entire drive, but you couldnt use the drive on any other machine that has the source software installed on it to de crypt it.
i would like something that can run on the thumb drive that will always prompt for a password after you put the drive in and even timeout if no activity is detected incase you leave your drive in the computer.
any suggestions?
Did you ever decide whether to change, for example, Portable Firefox to Firefox Portable?
If you notice anything odd on the site... something not working as expected, drop a note here. I've already:
- Turned off the preview requirement for forum posts
- Fixed forum post new-line parsing
- Fixed some typos (I tend to make quite a few)
Thanks!
John,
Before posting to the Request an App forum, I would like to ask about something you wrote in the Portable Firefox 1.5 announcement email:
This website will act as a home to all the portable apps I've been working on for the past year and a half (plus the 3 that will be released within the next week).
What are the three apps you are planning to release soon?
Thanks,
QB
