Assault Cube Server

I guess this post is mainly for Simeon but I just wanted to ask if you had ever looked at making the server component portable? I can't remember what the last decision was about it, but I think you were just going to leave it, since we had sort of concluded it wasn't necessary. However, I've since realized that one key reason to make the server component portable is that you need it for LAN games.

How to make a portable app's binary run from a deeper level folder?

Submitted by jur on December 13, 2010 - 8:17pm

I use Bibletime. Its executable is one level deeper than typical portable apps, located in PortableApps/Bibletime/bin.

How would I make the executable appear in the PA menu? I tried a simple windows shortcut but that didn't cut it.

Apologies of this has been discussed before; I searched everywhere but could not find a relevant topic.

I installed PortableApps on my friend's hard drive. It works well!

Submitted by amark on December 12, 2010 - 4:56pm

My friend had no applications on his XP machine, so I installed Portable OpenOffice, Gimp, and several others in a folder I named "PortableApps" in his Program Files directory on drive C. I put shortcuts to the applications on his Quick Start toolbar.
Everything works fine, but Stellarium had to be installed in its own folder on drive C because it can't handle spaces in directory names.

Advice for a better GUI of the PortableApps.com Suite and Platform

Submitted by tapsklaps on December 12, 2010 - 12:49pm

Since a longer time I use the Platform from the Website [link removed by mod JTH] instead of the PortableApps.com Platform. The reason for my personal decision is, that in the Platform of [link removed by mod JTH] I can integrate the software in several categories (Internet, Multimedia, Graphics, System, Security, Office, Utility and Extra). I my opinion is this GUI better and clearly arranged as the PortableApps.com Platform. What about with a little change of the GUI of the PortableApps.com Platform in this direction?

Installations after Drive Letter Change

Submitted by NiMhurchu on December 11, 2010 - 6:37am

Dear Forums,

I added an additional drive to my machine. The new drive C:\ holds the Windows system partition and, of course, the PortableApps directory (C:\PortableApps).
The new drive C:\ is a copy or clone of the former system drive, which is now known as F:\.

Whenever I download and install a new PortableApp on my system, it wants to install into the old system drive F:\PortableApps, not the new C:\ location.

Could you please point me into a direction how to fix this?

Thanks alot,

NiM

Mouse Gesture Apps

Anyone know of any, preferably open source, portable mouse gesture applications? I want one that is universal across Windows, not just for my browser so no "FireGestures" please. I only know of gMote and StrokeIt, neither are open source. Both are already portable to the best of my knowledge. I use the freeware gMote but it is slightly buggy and I don't see a version 2 coming any time soon (it has some annoying bugs that are hindering me).

Portable DirectShow environment

Has anyone attempted to make an independent DShow environment so that one could use a DShow-based player like MPC-HC (I saw that there was work on the player, but AFAICT, it depends on the host for codecs outside of its limited built-in capabilities)? VLC and SMPlayer are fine for low-resolution videos, but I'm pretty sure neither has an AVC decoder that supports any kind of offloading to the video card (ffdshow supports DXVA, CoreAVC supports CUDA and is extremely optimized overall, etc.).
