How to upgrade a PortableApps.com portable application when a new version is released

Submitted by ununpentium on February 26, 2010 - 3:21pm

Hello.
Some days ago I installed Open Office portable. It was the 3.1.1 version if I'm right.
I installed it using Total Uninstall freeware version (2.35). I always monitor installations with it. And I found that even portable apps make a few little modifies in the Registry of Windows.

Now 3.2.0 Portable Open Office has been released and I'd like to upgrade it.
But how to proceed?

1) simply delete the folder and install the new one?
2) make a kind of "upgrade" installation? If so, how?

Open Source Golf Game

Does anyone know of an open source golf game, and by "game" I mean 3D simulation (so don't say Neverputt :P). It doesn't have to be hyper-realistic, but it has to make a decent attempt.

It occurred to me that this is exactly the type of game I'd expect to find in the realm of open source games but I don't recall ever seeing one. I've played a few free ones over the years but they seem to have come and gone.

Local Library Won't Allow Portable Apps

Submitted by tvme on February 25, 2010 - 7:13am

I've been using PortableApps on a thumb drive for a couple of years. I really like the ability to use public, or a friend's, computers as a back up. All the applications I need, except taxes and Streets and Trips, are portable. I have dial-up at home, so Firefox on a stick WAS particularly helpful.

My local library's wifi doesn't allow email to be sent through lavabit.com so last week I plugged my thumb drive into one of their computers to email. I got a message saying I couldn't run my applications from a portable drive.

can I post a bat script?

Submitted by agdurrette on February 23, 2010 - 4:59pm

I'v put together a batch script so you can quickly launch common command prompt commands.

I don't think this is considered self promoting , if it is I'm sorry you can take it down. I do have a argument about how I'm not breaking any rules if you want to here it.

Let me know what you think of it. If you have any suggestions on commands to add to it or any think I can do to make it better let me know.
I can make a PAF launcher for it if people would like me to, or will at least try to Smile

Streets and trips

Submitted by Livin_Target on February 21, 2010 - 9:15pm

I know I cannot package it for public use. However .. I would like to ask is it possible to make Streets and Trips 2010 portable? And if so how would someone with no knowledge begin?
The reason I'm asking is I have and use almost daily streets and trips. My work computer will not allow us to install anything. But, it's really getting to be a pain dragging my laptop back and forth just to use one program. My PApps drive functions perfectly on it so if I can get this prog to work from it then I can stop dragging that anchor back and forth.
Appreciate any help ya'll can throw my way.
