when are there going to be "portable app" apps? any new ones coming soon?
I am a Software Engineer. Recently, my company is planning to sell the mother boards and give our customers portable Apps.com software as free. Therefore, I would like to get the permission to modify the image, logo and icon, and only distributing the launchers. As its a legitimate business I work for, we don’t want to infringe on any copyrights or patents may have.
This has probably been covered, but I couldn't find the answer. When PortableApps is sitting in the system tray(ie: active), how do you stop it? All I want to do is remove my thumb drive, but WinXP won't let me because it's being used.
Thanks for any help you can offer,
Scott Bringen
Have recently downloaded the Vidalia 0.10-bundle including Privoxy and Tor and followed the instructions to make it portable:
http://portablefreeware.com/?id=1088
Everything is working fine so far - BUT...
I do not seem to be able to create a working .bat file wchich should start Privoxy, Vidalia+Tor and the Portable Firefox at once altogether.
Any idea what exactly should be in such a .bat for a layout as the following:
X:\Apps\PortableFirefox\PortableFirefox.exe
\Privoxy\privoxy.exe
\Tor\tor.exe
Is it possible to organize the order of the icons on the portable apps home screen?

Portable Python is a Python programming language preconfigured to run
directly from a portable device, enabling you to have, at any time, portable
programming environment. Just download and extract to your portable device and
in 10 minutes you are ready to create your next Python application.
The backup routine provided with the Portable Apps Suite used to work, now it fails just after it starts, and says to 'check your configuration'. Any ideas? The backup path exists.
I do not see where to set any other configuration parameters.
When leaving my thumb drive in the USB slot while booting/rebooting, scan disk occurs.
This occurs when I leave my thumb drive in the port and simply reboot. Is there a way to prevent the scan disk from running every single time, when I know the volume was unloaded previously (without having to hit a button on every boot up)?
I know it's trivial, but it just annoys me.

I just read "Safe Portable App-ing", and the rules there are so cruel that I don't believe I can follow it strictly.
I appreciate your assertion that "Whenever you plug your portable drive into an unknown computer, you should assume that it may now be infected with a virus", but I cannot accept that I need to virus scanning my USB stick and keep those backups all the time.
I have a program that requires a file to be in the WINDOWS directory. Is there any way using NSIS to trick that program into thinking that file (which i have on the drive) is in the WINDOWS directory?
thanks in advance.
(sorry if I put this post in the worng forum. I'm new here)
