When I install a fresh copy of the portable apps on my DT Elite they all work responsively.
After a time the apps slow down. FF for example is crawling. So I reinstalled FF and it is a bit better but still slow. I used to run Faster Fox, Scrapbook etc but with the new install I omitted these extensions and it is still slow.
I did not change any of the settings so 0MB cache etc.
Does anyone know why this happens. I have also reformatted the DT and that helps but soon enough FF slows down. This does not seem to happen so obviously to Thunderbird for example.
Am I expecting too much from the DT? Have the write cycles caught up with me?
Please advise of when the next version of PortableApps will be available to the public. Also, please advise of any new applications to be releazed in the near future.
Thanks,
cstern
There are many references in the forums to the context in which PortableApps (or just portable apps) on a portable drive might be used on host machines, the most usual being machines at work/home and those belonging to colleagues, friends (holidays?) and internet cafes. Is it just me, or do these suggestions reflect a world quite different from the one I inhabit? I don't work in a particularly secure or as far as I know a very paranoid environment, but I can't think of many "colleagues" who would welcome me into their space brandishing a USB stick ... that's easily short-circuited, but where I find real difficulty is on foreign territory: I haven't found an internet cafe with a USB port, or not one that's enabled anyway, and up until reading the posts, had assumed that this is pretty usual.
I am up against a pretty restrictive and eager-to-make-a-point-of IT department who sees everything as black and white only. I believe the solutions here are superb and am pretty excited to have a bit of freedom again, but...
What is left behind as any kind of trace? I realize the MTU and Prefetch areas are populated on the PC...fine...I can delete those off. Anything else that I should be aware of? Even the slightest thing can make a difference...!
TDD.
Can you tell me how to uninstall the Portable Apps icon / name menu on my flash drive? I know I can remove the folders, but the name of the flash drive cannot be changed, and I cannot remove the 'icon' that has been assigned to it.
Thanks.
Some apps I have add application to the end of the name of the app.
Like, "Foobar2000 Application" and "Restoration Application"
Is there a way to change this? It just kinda annoys me.
Hi Everybody, I work in IT support and come across alot of PC's with virus/spyware problems and this would seem to help. My question is if you run portable spyware/virus spps on your usb drive will you be able to mount the clients drive and run scans from your usb drive?? Thanks in advance, Domenic
Hi,
first of all let me congratiolate to the Launch of PortableApps Suite 1.0 - it seems to be a real innovation. Nevertheless there is a strange grafical distraction of the Launcher-Appearance:
... or is this how the known 120 dpi issue looks like ?

Is this program secure enough to store passwords for bank accounts? Can it be cracked and the details stolen?
