Locked folders on mac

Submitted by camd54321 on November 18, 2007 - 9:30pm

I do know that portable apps does not run on a mac!
That being said when I did plug my thumb drive in my mac for copying some files into the music folder under documents (I keep music on my mac) I was upset when I could not copy it in. The folder for documents and all the folders within were locked.

Normally you can unlock a folder or file fairly simply by un-checking a checkbox, this would not work for this. These folders I found were locked in a way that only that they are only system immutable. So to get rid of it I had to boot up into single user mode and fix it using command line.

Best setup for install / portable version?

Submitted by jps on November 18, 2007 - 1:45pm

I am currently about packing software and wanted to make a bridge between the needs of a installed version and a portable version. Just wanted to deploy a single package. An installer where you can chose

a) install:
- desktop short cut (if selected, selected by default)
- start menu entry (if selected, selected by default)
- quick launch icon (if selected)
- register in windows software remove menu
- autostart (if selected, selected by default)
- all data goes to $appdata (documents and settings folder)

b) portable:
- just unpack, no install

memory access violation (PAM bug?)

Submitted by jcoombs on November 18, 2007 - 12:33pm

I just tried adding "Cave Chaos 2.exe" in a folder directly under PortableApps. It runs fine when I launch it from Windows Explorer, but when I launch it from the PortableApps menu, it gives a "memory access violation".

I suspect that this memory problem occurs for a host of other programs as well (when launched from PAM), assuming that Cave Chaos 2 is just an ordinary memory hog.

I wonder if it's possible to make a web-based version of the suite. Hey, you can't carry your drive everywhere, can you?
Yes, I searched the topic

For those of you who use a small picture of yourself as your icon/avatar...
Could you post in this thread/node a link to a bigger picture of yourself?

These little pictures are really driving me crazy Blum

At this point I'm really dying to see what John H and BuddhaChu really look like.

The little pictures have peaked my curiosity, really they have.

Quick response needed

Yeah I know I'm not John Haller. Sorry. I should add I don't even know him. I just visit here.

Interestingly there seems to be no mention of this new update on the front page. I only found out because BetaNews linked to it, and the Firefox Portable page itself shows the new version. So I figured I'd post a topic in case anyone else missed it.
