The original one is in Italian, but there is an English version...

I don't know if it is GPL or not... it claims to be "Donationware"...

Apologize me if I break the rules... LINK EDITED BY MYSELF(*)... I still don't test it... just want to let you know about this.

Greetings.-

(*) since chris0 says this is not GPL, I prefer to edit the link before somebody jump to my trout... Blum

About Portability: questions...

Submitted by ficod on May 9, 2007 - 11:46am

Hi everybody, first post here.

I find this site great. I've just downloaded some of my favourite apps, like Firefox, VLC... I'd like to share some thoughts about portability...

1) What are the advantages of NON-PORTABLE apps?
I think portable apps SHOULD leave a cleaner system and run smoothly even if used on the hard drive, isn't it? So, why use non-portable ones? For example... is there any reason according to you for using firefox instead of its portable version?

2) What are the disavantages of PORTABLE apps?

Kudos for the tremendous update!

I just wanted to express my gratitude to the creator of PortableApps. I haven't visited this site in a while now, and I was pleasantly surprised that the suite has taken that next step forward. I love the PAM, and how it makes everything easy to manage Smile

Keep up the excellent work, I look forward to future updates!

Peace,

Menelik

Can't Safely Remove USB Drive

Submitted by elusivemoose on May 8, 2007 - 2:18pm

New user, so please excuse my ignorance...

I've got a Kingston Data Traveller II (2GB) on a Dell Inspiron 6000. OS is XP Professional SP 2.

Installed the basic suite plus some extras like Gimp and Audacity. Everything seemed to be working fine.

But, when I went to remove the drive, I clicked "safely remove" and it told me that it was unable to stop the drive at this time.

I looked in the Portable Apps menu for some way to shut the app down. There is an "x" button at the bottom of the menu, but it doesn't do anything.

Now I'm really angry

I plugged in my drive and I saw the U3 partition (I installed smithtechs's applauncher on it) was gone :puzzled:. I discovered the launchpadinstaller from sandisk. I tought of making a backup, but that option was available in the installer so I didn't. I ran the installer: My drive was fryd and my files where gone :jawdrop:. Got my Documents back with an app that scans you're drive for deleted files , but all my portableapps where stille gone :(. I hate U3!!!!!!

TrueCrypt, Portable App., Autostart

Submitted by jjblackisback on May 7, 2007 - 9:58am

Hello all

I have a 2 gig usb flash. I put TrueCrypt on the first 3 mb, the rest I put in a TrueCrypt volume. I'm using TrueCrypt travel so when I plug in my usb it starts TrueCrypt, I then put in my password. This opens a folder with Portable Apps. in it. How can I get Portable Apps. to autorun afer I put my password in?
I tried App Launcher in the TrueCrypt volume but this did not work.

Thank you

Changed attributes after AutoPlay?

Submitted by fergus on May 7, 2007 - 3:30am

Although it's irritating, I don't particularly want or need to stop the AutoPlay feature that runs EVERY TIME I connect my USB drive / USB stick to a running Windows machine. I gather I could use TweakUI to disable AutoPlay for some/ all drivenames, but I'd rather do this, if at all, by direct editing of the registry. Can anybody tell me how to do this?
