Site Status Update: Drupal 4.7 Upgrade

John T. Haller's picture

Just wanted to provide folks with a quick status update on the site. As some may have noticed, the site was down for a short time here and there yesterday and had a couple of periods of unresponsiveness today. The reason is that I was upgrading Drupal -- the content management system that everything you see here runs on -- to version 4.7. It took about 1/2 a day yesterday and then about 1/2 the day today to get everything running correctly (including having to manually kill off the whole search index and recreate the tables, manually hack a couple extensions, re-do sections of the site theme, etc)

Announcement: New name.

I knew I should have changed my name earlier. Now I was forced to create a new account.

Anyway, this is the member formerly known as Bruce. I realize I should probably post this in Off-Topic, but I feel I can avoid more confusion by putting it in a more visible forum (General).

So, for those who know me, fat cerberus = Bruce. That is all.

Yadabyte Shhh!!! Released

Submitted by MatYadabyte on May 8, 2006 - 4:47am

Hi Portable Appsters

We have just released a new portable App called Yadabyte Shhh!!! that is not only a great little (48k) open source portable app it also fills a niche that needs to be filled.

Yadabyte Shhh!!! is an occasional use, simple, portable and secure text based encryption app. It provides lifestyle encryption of text such as emails, credit card details or MSN messages.

It is by no means an alternative to PGP but for occasional use with trusted friends and family its pretty nifty.

Yadabyte Shhh!!! along with the other Yadabyte Portables can be downloaded from www.yadabyte.com

Is there any reason you can think of why the normal style sheets aren't working for me on this site?
They work in IE but not Firefox.
Installed Extensions:
Firebug (disabled)
Web Developer Extension
Customize Google
...
Thats all I can think of that would interfere.
I believe that something is interefering with the @import sections.

Will any PortableApps work on a CD?

Submitted by Corfy on May 7, 2006 - 2:23pm

I was just wondering if any Portable Apps work on a CD.

I have assembled a free and/or open-source software CD that I pass out to people with a large number of Windows applications, many of the same ones available at PortableApps.com. I thought it might be a neat idea to have a "Live" version of some of these programs available on the CD so people can test the programs without having to install them first.

Some of the programs probably wouldn't make much sense to run as a Portable App off a CD (ones that require lots of personal settings, like Gaim, Miranda or Thunderbird, along with a f

I found this cool little application to make PC-to-PC calls from my thumb drive. Unfortunately you have to have know the IP address of the computer you are calling, and the other party must have this application running on their end to to receive calls. It's pretty neat though because it's so small and it really does well with low bandwidth connections! Here is the download site http://www.vitez.it/picophone/

Hi, this is my first post, even if i use portable suite for months, and i visit the site daily.

I just want to ask, which are the applications that are to be released (as portable) in the next weeks, or months?

And when will be ready, the next beta of the suite.

Tnx. Keep up the good work.
