Here are a few helpful hints when creating/using portable apps.
Hello everybody,
I would like to recommend Qsel as a launcher for portable programs on your USB-devices. It is of amazingly small size (download is only 63 kb), yet very powerful.
Personally, what convinced me to use it instead of Pstart are the category pages, of which the user can create an unlimited number - allowing for an easier and clearer accommodation of a large number of portable programs than Pstart, despite the latter's group feature. Now my programs are really grouped the way I want, easy to find and and with a good overview.
Hallo,
couldn't you integrate more settings like "disconnect USB Drive by close of Portableapps", "don't hide on startup" or a portable encryption.
Yours sincerely anno
Hello all.
I am using most of the "PortableApps" available here, on my USB - non U3 stick.
I am currently waiting for a U3 stick to arrive and i would sure like to use it as such (..that is, a U3 stick), yet i fail to understand how one can have these "PortableApps" to appear as selectable apps in the U3 menu.
I've seen that there are indeed U3 version of some of the apps, but i wouldn't want to use older versions of the apps just for U3-compatibility's sake.
What would you suggest? Is it possible to use a U3 stick effectively without using "U3 apps", but normal "Portable Apps"?
How can I make two apps to run with autorun.inf?
Let's say PAM and RoboForm at the same time...
Thanks in advance
Like others here, I experience periodic problems with file system errors on my USB drive. Is there a portable app that works better than chkdsk or the Windows Explorer Properties...Tools... Error Checking option?
Yes, I've searched the forum already...
...on my Cruzer Titanium 2GB and replace it with the PortableApps Suite but there's a few things that I want to have first.
1. I like the autorun feature that comes on the drive. I would like to set it up so that it runs the Portable Apps suite. I think I've seen that happen but I don't want to wreck my $60 drive in the process of hacking it, and if I replace U3 with Portable Apps, I want all that U3 crap off of there while still keeping the autorun.
My laptop hard drive crashed here at work but thanks to the portable apps I have been using on my flash drives I was able to move to a new computer without skipping a beat. Thanks so much for all your work with these programs!!!
On the subject of application efficiency, I was wondering whether it is easier for PC's to run PortableApps or their non portable counterparts?
If yes, then would it be a good idea to setup a system of just portableapps?
I think there would be some integration problems, but would those be the only problems?
I tried the portable skype that is posted somewhere in this forum (I can't find it again and that's why I'm starting a new annoying post about portable skype... ).. it have something strange... when you clink on PAM: "Profile was not found. Please check your configuration"... then if you open the PortableApps folder, go to the Portable Skype folder and double click in the launcher... it works!!!
What's happening?
