Windows XP/Vista/7/8/32-bit Compatible Apps Available and Requested

I'm working on adding legacy builds of our officially-released apps that have dropped support for Windows XP, Vista, or 7 to the base app homepages. The goal is to make them easier to find for folks on legacy systems. I'm listing out completed packages and packages that are being researched and built below. The packages are designed to install alongside your main app installs and won't be updated to the latest version - breaking compatibility with your legacy OS - by the PA.c Platform. We don't need copies of any of the apps listed, thanks.

Outdated Official Portable Applications

Welcome to the PortableApps.com outdated apps tracker. Please post a comment for any outdated official apps that aren't already listed with AppName Version as the title (no dashes, Vs or other text). Before posting a request, please make sure that their stable Windows build is available and they have been announced by their publisher (just being available on a download/ftp server, github, or 3rd party site doesn't count as the app may not yet be official). Comments will be deleted as they are added.

New Chrome Exploit - Google has patched these exploits in version 138.0.7204.97.

In this video, "URGENT — New Chrome Exploit - UPDATE NOW! (Also Edge/Brave/Opera)" by ThioJoe, he provides details on these exploits:

The simple fix is to navigate to Help/About Google Chrome (chrome://settings/help) but for all versions of Google Chrome Portable I've used, the update does not occur, and I get this message.

An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 1: 0X80004005).

click the close "x" button on an app ---> send app to system tray

Is there any utility to do this?

click the close "x" button on an app ---> send app to system tray

Can AutoHotKey maybe do this?

I want to do this with VLC.

For some reason I have a terrible habit of clicking on the close "x" button with the intention of sending it to the system tray.

Let me know, thanks.

Textify Portable "did not close properly" error appears every launch, unlike other PortableApps

Submitted by chrisfox on June 19, 2025 - 6:21am

Hi, I’ve encountered a persistent issue with the PortableApps version of Textify Portable and was wondering if anyone has a solution.

Every time I start my PC and launch Textify Portable (PortableApps is starting automatically with Windows and Textify is configured to start up in PortableApps), I get the following error message:
"Textify Portable did not close properly last time it was run and will now clean up. Please then start Textify Portable again manually."

chrome profiles are resetting after manual update of Chrome portable

Submitted by dwaynek on June 16, 2025 - 5:00pm

I normally run chrome's .paf executable and overwrite my previous installation to update my Chrome portables and this would normally retain the profile but with the latest update (137.0.7151.104 (Official Build) (32-bit)), it somehow resets the profile and I get a blank profile upon launch.

how do I retain my profile or at least restore it?

also it seems to be checking for updates. how do I disable updates?

Portableapps footprints

At my work (Windows computers), we are only supposed to install software through the company IT department.

They didn't have Firefox available, so I copied a portable version of Firefox onto my work computer. In theory, I could have ran it off the USB stick, but that was very slow, I just copied it to a separate folder on the computer.

A few months later, the IT person tells me that he knows that I am running Firefox, that I am not supposed to have it, and that I should delete it.
