Library computer messed up my drive

Let me explain what's going on. When I plug my USB hard drive into a library computer, it allows me full read and write permissions, but only until I unplug it. After I unplug, I can't modify or delete the files and/or folders. All the computers in the library run Windows XP Professional. I think the problem has something to do with read write permissions between all the computers in the library, because all the file and folder names on the drive have a blue font color instead of the usual black.

Now have solution to rename menu entries and call batch and/or non-PortableApps apps from menu - like shortcut functionality :-)

Freeware & Open Source

Are you an enthusiastic PortableApps user? Ever wanted to rename the PortableApps menu entries? Ever wanted to create PortableApps menu entries to non-PortableApps (e.g. SecureCRT etc) applications which won't install into the PortableApps folder structure? Ever wanted to create PortableApps menu entries which execute a batch file? Well now you can with portableapps-menu-workaround.exe Smile How does it work? The portableapps-menu-workaround.exe makes copies of itself while 'cloning' the original icons & exe info from the target application to run.

Impressive...

I'd not updated any of my apps in a while so, when I came here and saw the 'new' portable suite I was pleasantly surprised. Got it installed and setup and I have to say I'm very impressed. Quite a step up from PSstart menu.

I see that you're going to incorporate the removal of apps from the menu on for your next build. May I also suggest allowing the renaming of apps (for the menu only). This is something I'd done with psstart. Just looks cleaner than having a bunch named blahblahPortable. Blum

autolaunch

So when I attach my PNY Attache 1gb USB flash drive with PortableApps installed to my Dell laptop with WinXP installed, I always get the "This device contains multiple file types" dialog box, with the first option being launching PortableApps from the flash device. However, the "always perform this action" check box isn't available in this dialog. Anyone know how to set the options so that it always just launches PortableApps from this device when I plug it in without asking me?

PortableApps and Vista

I was having problems getting GIMP, GAIM and GTK+ to play along together in Vista Ultimate. After a couple of hours of frustration, I downloaded and installed Portable Apps Menu.
It installed without a problem, as Admin, and I was able to Sudoku and XAMPP installed as well.
GAIM has a problem with the display of the fonts, not sure if that is a problem with it getting the font info from Vista or a limitation of Beta5. Beta6 didn't have the problem.

GIMP and everything is now working just fine.

Thumbs up!

While on my favourite torernt site I came across a portable version of dreamweaver 8 and Nero 7, would these be real? I can send people the torrenmt files if they want to have a look.

Thanks all in advanced

Shortcuts

Submitted by DJRWolf on February 1, 2007 - 1:48am

I was wondering if anyone knows how (or even if) you can make shortcuts that are able to work on a thumb drive even if the letter changes from one computer to the next. For example, instead of a normal shortcut saying somthing like "E:/FireFox/Firefox.exe" I'm thinking of it just having it point to the FireFox directory and the exe within it. That way I can use just a few apps on a smaller drive. Another way of saying it is I want to make a relitive shortcut instead of a fixed shortcut.
