Disk Usage Monitor - detecting abandoned temp files

Submitted by LynnL on November 24, 2006 - 6:50pm

I don't have a tool to suggest, but for USB work it would be nice to have a tool which watched for CHANGE in the file count & size in various directories, such that one could be prewarned of problems.

For example, I just ran Open Office & edited a Calc file (loaded as the Portableapps.com bundle). Before, the OO directory held 2460 file in 357 directories with 171MB of data (but chewing up 228MB of space). After there were 2461 files ... hmm, where was the extra file created? Is it an abandoned temp file? Am I going to gain 1 file every time I run OO?

Second example, I just ran across a bug or incompatibility between FireFox and a USB-based virus scanner. This caused FireFox to create and abandon up to 2MB of temp files per hour. I noticed only because I had seen previously that FF consumed about 38MB of disk space ... and later I saw it was 61MB so investigated.

Hi,
I would like to see IrfanView on my portableapps. It's a small but a very functional viewer/edior for pictures, but also a movie/mp3 player... and yes, it is a freeware but I don't know if it has an open source???

The web site is http://www.irfanview.com/

Some IrfanView features:

* Many supported file formats (click here the list of formats)
* Multi language support
* Thumbnail/preview option
* Slideshow (save slideshow as EXE/SCR or burn it to CD)
* Show EXIF/IPTC/Comment text in Slideshow/Fullscreen etc.
* Support for Adobe Photoshop Filters
* Fast directory view (moving through directory)

Security software

Portableapps are very convenient to manage personal matters. But we carry personal data with us all the time, it may be lost or stolen, so a security software is needed to protect the sensetive personal data.

Drive Lock

It would be really great if you made a program could password protect a USB flash drive. In other words, you would have to type in a password before being able to access any of the data on it.

I dream of the perfect portable code editor

Submitted by vesper8 on November 22, 2006 - 3:37pm

Hey all.. I have been looking long and hard to find a portable text editor that suits all my needs.

Of course my dream come true would be a lite portable dreamweaver.. but I doubt that'll ever happen.

Basically I'd settle for a notepad++ WITH a intergrated FTP client for editing websites directly off the server.

Add a little bit of code completion for html/css/javascript/php and I'm in heaven.

So far I've tried SuperEdi which has the ftp client though it's buggy and hella tedious to use.. but no color coding for languages and that's a major turn off.

I've also tried context which I didn't like at all.
