Portable Notepad++

Submitted by Troll86 on November 16, 2006 - 5:43am

Notepad++ is an excellent text editor, with source highlighting for a lot of languages. Important for me is C++, PHP and Html. So everybody can try it:
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net
There are also the source code.
I'm not a good programmer, cause I'm a student. So I cant do it by myself.
If somebody make it a Portable App, plz insert copilers for the different languages,
so that App becomes a perfect programming tool for me, my classmades and others.

PSI Portable

Hi, I think, it would be a good idea to create PSI Portable. PSI is a great, user friendly Jabber client, the application itself is quite small (about 10MB) and I suppose many people would find it useful. PSI is already possible to be used on a thumbdrive but it is quite difficult to install (you have to copy the app, than copy the profile folder, create a .bat file to set up the profile folder and run the app and sometimes it is also necessary to edit the registry to be able to run psi from a USB drive). This is why I would find it extremely convenient to have it as a real "PortableApp".

Since the original author of LauncFromPort is not going to be releasing any newer versions, and since this app is open source, can anybody out there make a new app but configure it to where it does not need PStart? I personally use ASuite, and I'm sure others use different launchers. Thanks.
[EDIT] On version 1.0, I was able to move LaunchFromPort.exe to a different folder and automatically start it with ASuite. Once I exit ASuite, it would also restore to the previous wallpaper.

Portable Wipe

Submitted by qxwcev on November 15, 2006 - 11:01am

Hi,

When will your beta of portable eraser available?

I am using sdelete which is a commandline wipe from sysinternal
I wrote a batch file so that any folder or file that is dragged over will be "directed" to sdelete.exe to do recursive wiping.

The issue was that the directory entries are still valid for NTFS and FAT16 systems when i do file recovery.

Does your portable eraser clean up directories entries?

Would love to do some test on it when it comes available

Request for Portable CD Ripper app: Grip

Submitted by eljefedelito on November 14, 2006 - 10:51am

I find myself often wanting to rip a CD into MP3 format and the machine that I am at only has iTunes or Windows Media Player, both of which I don't trust to rip CDs well (nor in a useful format).

If Grip can run as a Portable App (using Lame for MP3s and Vorbis for oggs) and save the resulting mp3 files onto the root of the Portable Device, life would be grand!
