PortableApps Updater

Submitted by chinthor on October 4, 2010 - 6:34pm

Here's a thought. Since so many portable apps have full-size, near identical counterparts, the update process doesn't necessarily work (this means YOU, FireFox!)

The update tends to point to the latest and greatest in the larger world community and ignores the fact that you are updating from a portable version.

Hot Potatoes

I'd like to see a portable version of Hot Potatoes, a software that I like using for school.

The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Hot Potatoes is freeware, and you may use it for any purpose or project you like. It is not open-source.

Although there is a zip file available that can be run from a USB drive, the software creates several registry keys and file associations.

I previously searched and this has not been requested before...

SOFA is a user-friendly statistics, analysis, & reporting program. It is free, with an emphasis on ease of use, learn as you go, and beautiful output. SOFA lets you display results in an attractive format ready to share. And SOFA will help you learn as you go. SOFA is released with open source AGPL3 licence.

DC++ Server (HUB) YnHub

Submitted by bobidigital on October 2, 2010 - 4:57pm

YnHub is one of the many servers that are available on the interwebs for the DC++ community. It was last worked on back in 2008 and development has stopped. However the developers have left a stable version which is still in use today in the DC++ community.

Its used in conjunction with a DC++ client or variant. The 'hub' itself does not deal with file sharing, it just allows users to connect to it, host chat rooms, allows PM messages.

Could this be made portable?

ApE Plasmid and DNA editor

This is a handy tool for undergrad and grad students in molecular biology. I've posted on the author's wiki page a recommendation to make this a portable app, even tried myself using the Installer but failed. You can find the software link here: http://www.biology.utah.edu/jorgensen/wayned/ape/

Keep up the fantastic work! Love the site.
