Hi there, long time first time!

First off all, I want to thank John T. Haller, for taking the time to make all of these useful softwares portable. Thanks!

Now moving on...

I was wondering is there a possibility for you to create a U3 launch menu like for .app applications? My flash drive is U3 smart and you can imaging, it would be really nice to be able to launch .app application right from the U3 launch menu.

Thanks.

Scribus is now Win32 native -> Portable Scribus ?

On January 23rd, Scribus 1.3.2 has been released (http://www.scribus.org.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&...).

It now features a native Win32 port (http://windows.scribus.net/) which greatly improves performance and remove the need for Cygwin.

It would be nice to have a portable version of this fantastic piece of software.

Portable GNU PG + GPG Shell

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on January 27, 2006 - 6:04am

be a fantastic combination for portable encryption/signing. Of course I understand context menu options (such as right clicking on a file) couldn't list the encryption option because it would require an install but even without it's still cool. Maybe a .reg file could also be included so if people wanted/were able to they could get the menus in explorer. At the moment I'm using the non-portable version and it's a pain in the ass when it needs updating etc. Portable app is easy, delete the old and put the new, first of all saving preferences.

How about a Python compiler?
I know it uses an installer currently, but could it possibly run from USB?

Uniform Server

Submitted by Shaman on January 26, 2006 - 9:44am

I was using Apache2Triad for a long time but I found a server called Uniform Server. This is a tiny(20-30mb) server which includes Apache MySQL and PHP.

I will be happy to see this program in portableapps.com.

Here is an explanation form http://www.uniformserver.com:
The Uniform Server is a WAMP package that allows you to run a server on any MS Windows OS based computer. It is small and mobile to download or move around and can also be used or setup as a production/live server. Developers also use The Uniform Server to test their applications made with either PHP, MySQL, Perl, or the Apache HTTPd Server.

has anyone found a tool that can sync application settings with the host computer while the files are running. If so please tell!

HDD cleaner / permanent file eraser

Submitted by joet on January 25, 2006 - 6:57pm

I'm also looking for a portable app that would allow me to overwrite unused sectors of my HDD at work, and/or erase files completely by overwriting the space they occupy in the HDD several times (preferrably customizable, i.e. once, 3x, 5x, or more) using random chars.

I'm, essentially, looking for a portable version of Eraser (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=37015) ... one that doesn't muck with the registry. I don't need the scheduler feature.

disc image viewer

Submitted by joet on January 25, 2006 - 6:42pm

Is there a portable app that can open disc image files (e.g. ISO, BIN/CUE, NRG, etc) for viewing? It would be nice if it could also write to a blank optical medium, but my main concern is just viewing and possibly extracting files/dirs from the image into the HDD.

TabPad

This is a very good Notepad clone with tabs. It's small too at >200 KB. Leaves no registry entries and is open source!

(go to the bottom and click "Download EXE". Just extract it from the ZIP file and run!)
