Portable App Development

Hello John,

First of all thank you for all your hard work to support Open-Source software during the last years!

Now that we have all the current versions of the most important programs (OpenOffice.org, Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird, VLC media player, KeePass, GIMP [nearly up to date], Notepad++, Sumatra PDF) and the portable Java support, it would be great to see a new PortableApps Suite Standard release, the people out there would love it

Add all the nice games and the last PortableApps Menu and the users will soon get addicted.

Hi,

I can't "safely remove" my usb flashdisk until i shut down portableapps, and i can only do it via task manager.

I'm sure there are more elegant ways to go abt doing it, right clicking it's icon on the system tray does not reveal any options to shut it down. i noticed a X button on the application GUI itself could it be the button to shut it down? i tried clicking the button but nothing happens...

reinstalled the protableapps but still can't solve this problem...

Could the released Portable Apps be zipped? - Drives me nuts waiting to get home from work to try them out as our work firewall blocks exes but not zips - :/

I thought these apps may be good for inclusion in the portable apps suite.

These work with Windows and Linux (wine) with little modification:

John, how do you set the directory structure up for the installer? Is it:
\AppPortable\
\AppPortable\Installer.nsi
\AppPortable\Files\App\
\AppPortable\Files\etc...

Is this correct?

Also, what are the Delete '$INSTDIR\App\openoffice\blah...' lines for?

I just wanted to share some progress with everybody with making my personal web development tools work on USB and with the portableApps startup. I haven't been using it for long yet, and this is my first post on this forum... so please bare with me

Now, my web development setup is quite simple... I use Total Commander (shareware, ghisler.com) and vim. (vim.org)

Now you can just drag and drop the vim/vim70 (in my case, since I use 7.0) folder into your portable apps dir. You do not need the vimfiles dir for vim to work. (unless you heavily modded it, ofcourse :))

I was reading "TTCalc Portable [Test 2]" submitted by "Have Some Patience" (thank You for your interest) and thought that it would be a nice thing to make TTCalc a portable.

Today I've released a portable version of the program TTCalc (mathematical calculator).

Does starting two portable apps together work? What I mean is that when I start two different postable apps nearly at the same time, I have intermittent problems, for instance one app shows its configuration menu as if it wasn't able to read its saved registry settings. I can't always reproduce this, but it happens fairly often. I was wondering if it's got something to do with the registry being temporarily locked or something like that. I tried to sequence the apps so that they don't overlap, but I still get the same problem, less frequently. Any ideas? TIA
