Portable App Development

I'm trying to make this program portable. I'm creating it using Thinapp using the normal method. When the portable exe is created and run, the actual clock doesn't display. The program runs fine in the background, I know this because if I double-click the exe again, the preferences window pops up and everything is working fine. But the actual clock display in the tray never shows up. i don't know why.

I am working on an open source (GPL v3) book reader and I would like to see if others would think it's a candidate or not.

It's available at http://books.raggiesoft.com/reader2.htm (be sure you're looking at Version 2, since version 1.5 uses the ugly/bulky .NET Framework).
I've tesed it on Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows XP Professional SP3, and Windows Vista Ultimate and it seems to run fine. (considering it's still an Alpha build)

I'm trying to make a Netbeans portable app and everything looks to be in place using the PortableApps.com Installer but it asking for an exe file in the base folder. I took a look at other working examples and they have an AppNamePortable.exe then the normal AppName.exe in the App/AppName folder. How can I create the AppNamePortable.exe?

Hi, I haven't seen this info anywhere else, does the new 0.90 spec completely replace the 13.3 installer? I think "yes". What about NSIS Portable? I think "maybe", if all you're doing with NSIS is packaging PortableApps, then the NSIS included with 0.90 (it is included, right?) is all you need.

I am a new guy here and was hoping to find some open source or sample code of a app launcher on the lines of Magic Formation that could be run from USB. I will begin working on my own version but was hoping to find something I could just hook into and start playing.

As I've been browsing around through the forums, there are a lot of apps that made it to the dev test level but then just kind of died out and are really out of date. Updating an app is often quite a bit easier than starting from scratch and I know that I often have some time to work on an app, but not enough to start from scratch, and that updating an app often goes quite a bit more quickly than creating a new app, so I had a thought. Perhaps we could get a list together of dead/abandoned dev-test level releases and see if we can get new people to pick them up and bring them up-to-date.

I'm creating this topic to get comments from developers, moderators and others on the updated PortableApps.com Format 0.90 and PortableApps.com Installer 0.90.0. Any discussion and contributions can take place here.

All existing bugs from the 0.13.3 release of the installer have been fixed in 0.90.0 based on testing.

I've discovered a bug in the ReadINIStrWithDefault.nsh macro file I wrote that we use with many of our releases. Specifically $0 and $2 are accidentally swapped by the macro. I'm guessing that we haven't noticed it because most of the variables we use are defined and we only use the macro at the very beginning of our launchers before we make use of any of the other variables, but it could be affecting some launchers out there.

Here is the updated macro that fixes the issue:

I have Firefox 3.0.10, and i think it has a bug. Sometimes when I change a setting, or delete a bookmark, etc, after I close and open it again, it undoes the changes. Does anyone else have this problem?
