Firefox Portable

Problem on restart.

Submitted by MrMan on April 25, 2011 - 9:30am

I recently updated to FF4 portable, and I am experiencing an error every time I restart.
On each restart lately I always get the Recover from Crash screen.
I close out my tabs and always shutdown on a blank tab.
I only use the red x to end the program, and give it enough time to shutdown before trying to eject the drive. (I check it in task manager)
This has happened on XP as well as 7 based machines.

I would like to figure out the source of my issue, is there any more information I can provide or troubleshooting steps I should attempt?

This URL kills my Firefox every time I try to access it

Every time I click on http://file.qip.ru/embed/111226964/dfc05946 and then hit the start button, down goes Firefox. I am using FF V3.6.16. I am not sure if I have a problem opening SWF files because this is the only one I've had this kind of a problem with. If I open this file with Chrome, it comes up fine. Would appreciate someone else trying it to see if it opens.

Cheers.....

FF4.0, XP/SP3 (usually) But Win7 seems to be the same. Corasir Flash Voyager GT.

I set my homepage to a specific file in the root of the memory stick.

This worked for a time, and did in FF3.6.13 etc.

However FF4.0 has suddenly decided to change the js file after startup so that the file address is something like:

user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "file:///EE:/MYHOME.HTM"););

if I load "file:///E:/MYHOME.HTM" and set it as the homepage and exit, the js file is saved correctly.

Support Page Needs Editing

https://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable#plugins

It seems to me there's some outdated information that could confuse people.

The first suggestion is to "try our easy to use Flash installer for Firefox Portable," but after following the link and reading all the discussion, it sounds like it was a 0.1 release two years ago that no longer works, due to changes in how Adobe handles things.

The next suggestion is "Flash is available as an extension. Just click the link." But that link is now dead.

Restart Add-On is not portable

An example I found where portability mode does not work anymore. I make use of the "restart" addon in Firefox. Having to restart Firefox for performance reasons is something I do all the time, but then once you restart, the launcher is gone, cauzing firefox.exe to work on its own without its supervision. How would you work around that?

Alternative to google toolbar?

Submitted by dtms1 on April 12, 2011 - 8:17pm

So im using firefox portable and im loving it, however I need the google toolbar but when i use that addon it slows down FFportable A LOT. Everytime a new page or tab opens it pauses for a few seconds and then continues.

Is there an alternative to the google toobar where i can search for stuff on google without going to google itself?
The toolbar that came with firefox portable is alredy being used and I need another one (preferably on the left side like the google toolbar)

Any ideas on what else i can do or maybe some settings on google toolbar to fix it?

Plugins will not show and Adobe Flash Player isn't found

I recently installed Firefox Portable 4.0 to a network share. When it starts up, everything is fine for a while. After a random amount of time, not only does Adobe Flash Player (which I installed per the instructions on this site) fail, but when I try to look at plugins, none show up. I know the network share is sound - I manage it. As far as I know, there are no disconnects from it, even momentarily. After restarting Firefox Portable, it works again for a while. I have rebooted my system repeatedly and that does not help.
