logojPortable 6 Update 27.1 (formerly Java Portable) has been released by PortableApps.com. jPortable allows you to easily install the Java® runtime engine to your PortableApps.com-enabled device for use with portable apps like LibreOffice Portable, all without any Java runtime on the local PC. This release has an improved installer with support for automated installations and updates as well as a smaller download and install size. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format for easy use from any portable device and integration with the PortableApps.com Platform. It's freeware for business and personal use.

Features

jPortable allows you to easily add a Java® runtime environment to your portable device. It automatically works with apps in PortableApps.com Format like OpenOffice.org Portable. No Java® runtime environment needs to be installed on the local machine and no admin rights are required. The JVM will be downloaded directly from Oracle's servers as part of the installation process.

jPortable Launcher

In addition to using jPortable with portable apps packaged in PortableApps.com Format, you can also use our jPortable Launcher to run Java apps in JAR format. It will even automatically portablize the settings of many Java apps.

Java Portable Apps Coming

This release of Java Portable marks the beginning of Java apps on the PortableApps.com Platform. We have an array of Java-based portable apps in testing and will begin releasing them soon.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

jPortable is packaged as a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Thanks for the update John. The new smaller size is nice!

It's in the release/development queue here. You can use this topic to bring the attention to an update if it is not in the queue already.
When an update is actually released depends on peronal resources. As the work on the platform seems to be on high priority atm, updates come a little bit delayed.

As you may or may not know, the Java Access Bridge is required for most Windows applications to be accessible to people using assistive technology (people with disabilities) or inspection tools (testers). I'm looking for a way to get the Access Bridge [ http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/tech/index-jsp-136191.html ] running on a jportable install, however my research leads me to believe it can't really be done, since it needs to tie into the host OS. I've looked at a registry modification before running the launcher, but wasn't (yet) able to get a working example.

Has anyone else tried this or have any suggestions?

I don't even see an installer or any directions on how to install it at all. It's just a downloadable ZIP file. How does it work?

It may just want system to ensure it's in the path. That's a possibility at least. We could try it without with a manual install into jPortable. I'd have no idea how to test it though.
