Angry IP Scanner Portable 2.21 Dev Test 4Submitted by Travis Carrico on March 4, 2008 - 1:39am
Angry IP Scanner is an open-source network scanner designed to be fast and simple to use. It scans IP addresses and ports as well as has many other features. The program already comes as an exe but it stores settings in the registry. this portable version backs up your settings. there's another thing that this portable version does that's cool. angry ip scanner is detected as a virus by many virus scanners. this portable version detects if the exe is there, and if it has been removed it automatically extracts a .7z file (which is not detected as a virus) with the original angry ip scanner exe into the correct folder. Works fine
Angry IpScanner Portable works fine, no problems detected. Folderstructure, Readme-Files and so on seem to be ok, too - good job done.

A nice tool, that was missing in my tools collection to help friends to discover problems in their home-network. I have heard of it before as a Linux tool, but i didn't know, that it is availible for Windows, too. And even not, that it could be made portable *lol*

Great work.
Insert original signature here with Greasemonkey Script.
Certainly nice!
Works like a charm! Great pick though, a nice thing to carry with you.

question. should i use the ugly icon that comes with the exe or can i use the icon from the version 3 beta which is also on their website here?
use the one from beta 3,
use the one from beta 3, it's much clearer. Do you know to convert that to an icon with all the proper sizes? If not, I can do it and post back shortly.

new icon
yeah i did it. dev test 2 is posted now. And for icons, Icofx is awesome and even portable; it should be a recommended dev tool or something
Yea
I usually recommend IcoFX. I use GIMP most of the time myself, however, but IcoFX is great.
Feedback
Here's the extremely picky PAFish stuff to change:
PackageVersionis probably something more like 2.21.0.0, I can't seem to find the exact build.Startshould be the AppNamePortable.exe, unless there's a specific reason you have just the program exe.200on like 194 to0That's all I caught in terms on PAFish stuff, awesome work and good app choice. The 7-Zip idea was fantastic, too.
dev test 3
fixed
Great
Just one small note to change before you forget. I missed this before.
In the Readme.txt
-\ <--- Directory with Angry IP ScannerPortable.exe
Should of course not have spaces in the exe name. Not worth an update right now of course.
Just add it before you forget.
fixed
fixed also
do i need to let this sit on the forums for a while or should i go ahead and submit it as "ready for official release"?
Give me a Second
I'm gonna double check it's clean it terms of registry and such.
Litte Late, But
Everything looked clean on my system. Someone should do a fresh RegShot on their PC before trying to be sure.
I will
and post back.

McAffee detected it as a virus
Just tried installing onto my usb stick using my works PC... but mcafee detected ipscan.exe as a virus.
That's by the nature of the
That's by the nature of the app. It has similar features to many network hacking tools, this application, however, does not contain a virus and is not intended to be used as a hacking tool.
See here for a description.

yeah many detect it as a virus which is why i set it up the way i did, the only other option is since angry ip scanner v3 is still in beta and it's not tagged as a virus yet; i could use that one. i just wanted to use the stable version

dev test 4 releases. now anyone who downloads it will see a message explaining about the virus detection thing so they won't think "wtf?" if or when it happens.
registry
i just looked back at a log file i made before that caught this program using the key HKU\S-1-5-21-2651071009-3632667047-424129808-1005\Software\Angryziber but every time it runs now it uses HKCU\software\Angryziber.
to be sure this program only stores setting in HKCU\software\Angryziber can somebody who has not run this program before run it while monitoring the registry?
Those two locations are
Those two locations are identical. that long nasty string of characters is the ID of the Current User so HKU\[nastiness]\ == HKCU\
The developer formerly known as ZGitRDun8705
yes
but the difference is that the nasty version only works on one PC and HKCU works everywhere.

@T
Very true. So T, you would be best leaving it as HKCU as HKU\[nastiness]\ is unique as Simeon said.

Yes
I just checked the launcher and everything seems OK there.
Nothing left behind here. Nice Program. I never used it before so I don't really know what I am doing but it works and I will keep playing with it
So here you go.

can't download
I can't download the program, right when I click the link, and tell my browser where to save it, my antivirus alerts me that this file is a virus in the .part file from firefox downloading it.
You need to turn off your AV.
You need to turn off your AV.
Yes, it sounds weird to say that, and I don't recommend it, but by the nature of what the app is and does it looks suspicious to AV programs, it's the nature of the beast.

Did you read these comments in the thread above:

Also you will probably not be able to run it while your AV is active unless you can tell you AV to ignore it, again the nature of the best. That app can be used by bad folks to do bad things. If you don't understand that it is best that you don't use the app unless you are prepared to tell you AV "Look, I know what I'm doing"
If you don't trust the dev, you should not download the app
