The Mana World Portable 0.5.1 Development Test 2

Application: The Mana World
Category: Games
Description: The Mana World is a free and open source MMORPG (Massively multiplayer online role-playing game) with the looks of "old-fashioned" 2D RPG games such as those released for the SNES/Super Famicom in the 90's. There is no monthly fee required.

This is an official release by the developers. It is meant to replace the current outdated and unofficial version.

Download The Mana World Portable 0.5.1 Development Test 2 [30MB download / 37MB installed]
(MD5: 88a9aab62a38a63fc3724b9133715106)

Release Notes:

Development Test 2 (2011-04-06):

  • The installer.ini now has a [FilesToRemove] section to make it delete tmw.log and config.log
  • Logs and updates are now written in the settings folder, so old updates get reused

Worked fine for me

So even though I just posted the above installer, it was created by Stefan Dombrowski, one of the developers on our team.

Before uploading it here I've installed The Mana World Portable on my SD card and tested it. It worked fine and the configuration and dynamically downloaded content was stored in the right place (the Data directory in TheManaWorldPortable on the SD card).

Oh, Nice

It'd be nice to have the developers supporting and packaging this directly. Based on a quick look, it does seem to be storing settings in the Data directory properly. I haven't done a regshot yet to confirm no leave-behinds. And I think it will properly upgrade an old install as well (which is key with updates).

Are you on the The Mana World development team? Would you like to do a custom splash yourself (or ditch it if you prefer) or would you like me to update the old one to the newer style and to include TheManaWorld.org on the right (we use this for official releases where the publisher wants the splash)?

Re: Oh, Nice

I'm the lead developer on the Mana project, which is where the client gets developed these days. And now we've decided to make a new The Mana World release based on the latest client.

The game does not use the registry, so it should pass that test easily. Upgrade wasn't tested yet.

We'll gladly accept your offer to make an updated splash screen, thanks!

Updated Splash / 0.5.2 Pre-Release

I've posted the splash for you here:
https://portableapps.com/temp/TheManaWorldPortable.jpg

You can package it up with 0.5.2 and post it as 0.5.2 Pre-Release 1 and then we'll get some devs to do a final test on it and we'll release it as final. Then for later releases, you just ping us when you have a new version and we update it in the app directory and automatically push the update out to our users.

It seems to me that the publisher is absent. May I allow someone to take over this?

No

As indicated above, this is being developed by the development team of The Mana Project themselves.

Updated

I've incorporated the changes you made using the official portable techniques and updated to the new 0.5.2 release. I've included the updated splash with your URL as well. If you'd like to take this over and host it yourselves, just let us know. Smile
