Aslo you may want to take a look at this older post https://portableapps.com/node/27285
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” Dr. Seuss
I've found this website too. But my Korean isn't the best and the Google Translator is useless in this case.
I sent an email to support@dvbsupport.net maybe they can help me. If you have a better idea, let me know.
I already know this post but I don't know if the PotPlayer still violates the license.
the complexities f this software, however if you are unaware of the license and also unaware if the program is in violation of any copyright issues or code violations and you still want to incorporate it into PortableApps does that also mean that you are willing ot accept anything that may become of a potential illegal distribution?

The offline installers will be released in the next days.
I got a response from Daum:
Have been using the player for a while.
Will you still be using version from dvbsupport site as the source for portable version?
That depends on when Daum is releasing an official global version. If it's not there in a week it'll be based on the dvbsupport version.
Should I release 32-bit and 64-bit separated again or combine those two together in one package?
full release notes:
I'll stay with the version from dvbsupport until Daum has released the official global version. Then it'll be one package with x86 and x64 in it.

New release on DvbSupport. Personally I prefer their builds as the builds based on official site has some additional features that are not meant for everyone, such as Chat, and other korean based-features

Thank you for updating the player.
One thing I noticed was that "PotPlayer Live Files" are included,
is there a specific reason why, as I believe they are for Korean specific features such as chat, etc. which are only used in korea.
It would be nice to have the option to select/deselect them, as in the DvbSupport installer.
[ DvbSupport Installer Example Image ]
Thank you for your time
This is not possible by the installer design. The only way would be to delete the unnessary files. At the moment I am figuring out which files.
I think I switch back to the Daum package.
There is an optional file named installer.ini which goes in the AppInfo directory, one of the sections in it allows for one 'Optional Components' checkbox in the installer. The PAF specification includes an example you can base your own off of, and there is also a section of the PortableApps.com Launcher manual about [OptionalComponents].
I don't know if it's feasible for you to make the "PotPlayer Live Files" an optional component or not, but it is possible.

Hope this helps,
If you look at the installation notes you will notice that some files get skipped, ("Skipping" vs "Extracting")
I am not sure how though,
That won't be enough info as some of the files skipped by that install may be skipped for other reasons (e.g. skipping PotPlayer64.exe likely has nothing to do with that option).
What would be needed is a comparison of logs which were identical except for the one option in question.
~3D1T0R
I believe it is. As the DvbSupport Installer has only three options. PotPlayer Files (Core), Live File, and Localization Files.
If you look carefully will notice that Mini is the Core, XP not quite sure (windows XP maybe), but PotPlayer64.exe is Live files I believe I read in some forum.
Skipping PotPlayer64.exe
Extracting PotPlayerMini64.exe
Skipping PotPlayerMiniXP64.exe
Skipping PotPlayerXP64.exe
The language files that are skipped are localization while all the others have to do with Live files as in DChat64.dll
The only Live/XP files from looking at the above carefully:
The localization files are, (not including "Extracting History\English.txt", as it was selected or system file):
And these are unimportant I guess:
There used to be a forum with active potplayer discussion, but I can not seem to find it. I remember that most files in the potplayer top folder other than PotPlayerMini and probably PotPlayerMini.dll too are not required, they are just optional.
I don't know how, but I got a double post here.

I think the PotPlayer Portable 1.6.51480 Dev Test 1 launcher is detecting 32-bit/64-bit and then launching PotPlayerMini.exe/PotPlayerMini64.exe.
The problem is PotPlayerMini.exe/PotPlayerMini64.exe are for 32-bit/64-bit Vista/Win7, not XP.
Can the launcher detect Windows XP 32-bit/64-bit and launch PotPlayerMiniXP.exe/PotPlayerMiniXP64.exe when appropriate?
I discovered this testing with WinXP 32-bit as an admin. Launching just shows the PortableApps Dev Release pop up and then that process closes with nothing else launching. I think the launcher is only doing PotPlayerMini with no PotPlayerMiniXP option.
Thanks for this work. PP is the best video player for Windows and it would be great to have a PortableApps version.
see GitHub for full changelog
PotPlayer Portable 1.6.52515 Dev Test 1 still lacks XP support. The PotPlayerMiniXP.exe/PotPlayerMiniXP64.exe files are not in the distribution.
Is XP just not going to be supported?
32-bit XP support would be really nice.
Thanks for working on this.
I've just released an LegacyXP build.
Works good, but I had to borrow the "FFmpeg" folder from another distro.
Place it here...
x:\PortableApps\PotPlayerPortableLegacyXP\App\PotPlayer\Module
inetc.dll
is the only DLL included by Daum. Which DLL's are missing?First, I don't think we need the 64-bit version of a media player. It increases the install and download size a lot without much benefit.
Second, we can likely have the PotPlayerPortable.exe launcher swap in the required XP files when run on XP and not when run on Vista and up. I can assist with that if needed.
Third, this is a closed source app and can't be hosted on SourceForge if the closed source app bits are included.
Fourth, once we do 1 and 2, how about we go official with this.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I agree with your suggestion. PotPlayer 64-bit really makes the package huge.
Could you assist me on how to launch the proper PotPlayer executable when running on XP and Vista or newer?
Is it possible to download OptionalComponents at install? Because I think I am not allowed to include the missing DLL's, am I?
Anybody using one of the following skins: BlackBox_en, BlackSpace_en or Olddefault

Can 32-bit only and 32-bit/64-bit versions be released so the end user can decide?
Regardless of the performance difference, I currently use the 64-bit Potplayer on 64-bit CPUs/OS.
But I still have a few 32-bit XPs that need the 32-bit version.
I wouldn't use the PortableApp version if it was 32-bit only but I very much want the convenience of a single 32/64-bit PotPlayer with PortableApps auto updates.
ps - thanks for the development effort on this great app!
For most apps, 64-bit is kind of pointless. It quite literally makes no difference to the end user and they would have no idea whether they are running a 32-bit version or a 64-bit version. For an app like a media player, it makes no difference in actual usage since it's so low on CPU usage.
Remember, unlike a 64-bit OS, a 64-bit app doesn't really buy you anything like a NoEx bit. That's handled at the system level. As is the larger system memory, which using a 32-bit app doesn't affect. Something like a media player comes nowhere near hitting the memory requirements of switching to 64-bit. So, quite literally, the only way an end user would know they are running a 64-bit version of this is by opening Task Manager and examining it.
There are a few examples where running the 64-bit version of an app makes sense. Apps like 7-Zip (performance improvement), Q-Dir (access to the proper folders on 64-bit), JkDefrag (proper drivers per operating system), etc. It's laid out completely here:
https://portableapps.com/node/24371
Doubling the size of an app in terms of download bandwidth (that we pay for and the end user may as well) and install size (which can be limited on a portable drive or cloud folder) and install time (the larger the app, the longer to do the initial install and all updates) for no actual end user benefit isn't what we do.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I'm the end user and I hate 32 bit software of anything anywere.
But the fact that PotPlayer is finally in the PortableApps repository is awesome!
Some of my audio media didn't play. I added these dlls:
Module\Libav\Libav.dll
Module\FFmpeg\FFmpeg.dll - and possibly also FFMpegMinimum.dll, I can't remember if I added it or if it was already there
OpenCodec\OpenCodecUnity.dll
Thanks for making the legacyXP build!
changes made for official release:
-remove 64-bit part
-add XP file and switch
The program shows Korean characters I'm Korean and it's fine with me, but an English version is also publicly available here: https://potplayer.daum.net
I think the English version stripped out some obnoxious features that are not relevant to non-Koreans.
PotPlayer Portable comes with all languages provided by Daum. Maybe some strings aren't translated yet. Which language were you using? The default language is auto-select and defined by your OS language.

It seems that my favourite skin was deleted during updating PotPlayer. Would be possible to not delete installed skins next time I update Pot Player?
Thank you.
Sorry for the inconvience. I will add the setting to preserve the skins directory.
Thank you,
That would be awesome.

Hi mwayne,
I have installed your Potplayer portable on my old P4 computer and had no problems.
But for some reason the same version or any other recent versions will not install on my i5 computer.
PS.
I'm using WinXP SP3 32bit
Can you try copying your other install to your i5 computer and run it?
Copying doesn't work I had already tried it. PotplayerMini will not run on the i5 PC.
I found a way around the problem. I tested old versions of Potplayer. The last version which gave me no problems on both PCs was 1.6.51514. So what I did was to use it's potplayerMini.exe.
I know it's not the perfect solution but at least it is working without problems.
Any ideas ?
Is there a problem with the installation or do you have a problem with launching PotPlayer Portable? There is a separate XP version of PotPlayer included. It's called PotPlayerMiniXP and will automatically be launched on XP.
Thanks for your reply.
As I said further up. For some reason recent versions of PotPlayer will not install or run on my Bigabyte MOBO, i5 machine.
It will just stop installing when it is almost done. The only way to run PotPlayer is to use an old version of PotPlayerMiniXP.exe and swap it. I have done this on your portable version and is now working fine.
Instead of preserving just the FFmpeg folder the whole Module folder will be preserved now.

Hi,
I would like to report a bug:
Use external filter doesn't work. I can choose a file, but after that nothing happens, the filter doesn't appear on the list.
For clarification, I am trying to use LAV filters, madvr renderer and xySubFilter in "portable mode".

Will there be a portable 64-bit version?
A 64-bit version has no advantages and makes the package bigger.
That may have been true a few years back, but you are the boss

I'm planning on releasing this today with a couple tweaks including the switch from XP to Vista+ not relying on a proper exit and a plugin installer for OpenCodecs if that's good with you.

Any chance releasing more of mwayne's great work?
What about his ReText, MiKTeX (No need to update each release, just in one in a quarter or so) and TexStudio?
Thank You.
