VirtuaWin: Have a portable Virtual Desktop Manager/Switcher

Submitted by DelphyM on June 8, 2007 - 12:13pm

Hello,
portable Apps are great peace of work with very useful and handy apps like for WebApps development. Incredible.

I've already using it along with other unported apps like Mplayer, Winamp, totalCMD,... which was quite easy to make them portable and everybody can done it itself:-)

The thing I miss is portable Virtual Desktop Manager for Windows.
There is already such great one GPL: VirtuaWin
And this one seems not so easy to make it portable and probably others could appreciate too.

Try it and you'll see why just this one.

great

I would also like to carry my hole desktop with me!

Maybe just ask in their forums if them may make a portable version?

Hmm?

What do you mean "Whole Desktop". And no need to ask in their forums, I am going to try to make a portable version of this as I like it a lot.

I've used DM2, will also try these suggestions, thanks.

It has some interesting features and plugins to shrink windows to floating icons, roll up to caption bar (my fave), set certain windows for Always On Top, etc, as well as the Virtual Desktop plugin. And more.

It's GPL, portable, but I don't know if it is stealthy.

Cool!

Many awesome features. Thanks for the links. I'll look into stealth and let you know what I find.

Multidesk - multi screen

I've been using "Multidesk" from http://www.techsuperior.com/
Seems to work ok on a machine without admin rights, can't find anything in registry unless you click "load with windows" option. But I've not got a good view of the registry on this PC.

With whole desktop I mean...

I would like to take my desktop with me. This means icons with relative paths, start menu with relative paths, screen resolution maybe, windows theme, desktop backround and so on.

basicly...

BartPE. like a second operating system for the PAM, right?

Not a hole boot cd. Just to

Not a hole boot cd.

Just to travel with my desktop settings to someone else desktop settings.

BartPE is using an alternative shell. This comes close to a 'desktop portable'. But these shell is not nice as original desktop and not fully portable (leaves to much behind).

Sounds like a roaming

Sounds like a roaming profile on a stick.

Here you are:

Here you are, this should work, it backs up your local settings, implies yours, and reverse on close, and it maintains your portable settings on the drive.
