It looks just like Pidgin. What are the advantages of using Instantbird, instead of Pidgin Portable or going to Meebo.com with Firefox Portable?

Instantbird is more like Adium, than Pidgin. In the respect that Adium and Instantbird both use the libpurple code, as well as Pidgin, but both Adium and Instantbird actually use a webkit engine to display the text/messages, whereas Pidgin requires GTK+
actually Instant bird doesn't use a webkit engine

I didn't mean it uses actual WebKit...I meant it uses a web browser engine instead of GTK+.
Actually, I think I will run some tests to see if there are performance benefits. Currently I am experiencing issues with Pidgin Portable running on an AMD 64-bit Vista machine (it crashes every 30 minutes without fail).
I will check start up times, RAM usage, plugin availability, functionality, etc. Considering that Instantbird is new, I must be generous on the latter of tests.

This is usually due to a misbehaving plugin. The Facebook plugin for Pidgin, for example, consistently crashed Pidgin on my box.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
What kind of machine are you running? I use the Facebookchat plugin but Pidgin never crashed on my XP laptop. This has only yet consistently occurred while working on my neighbor's Vista AMD 64-bit machine.

I run pidgin for days at a time with no problems. Typically any issues you see are caused by some type of plugin...WebPidgin used to crash my pidgin all the time...

just trying to merge the threads because they're about the same thing and my next reply fits better there
The new version of InstantBird is out.

It'd be great to get a portable version update.
Please report any outdated apps over at the outdated app thread: https://portableapps.com/development/outdated
It's pinned in the forum and available from the Development section. Updated status on there always lets you know where things stand. Instantbird Portable 1.2 has already been built and uploaded, we're just waiting for it to hit all the SourceForge download servers around the world.

Awesome, thanks. I always use search so I guess I miss the sticky/pinned topics.
Glad to see you're all on top of things.
