Translating Toucan 2

If you do not have an existing translation then follow these steps:

  1. Download a copy of Poedit. This is the program you will use to translate Toucan.
  2. Go to http://drop.io/toucanlang and download the default.pot file
  3. Open Poedit and click File->New catalog from POT File and fill in your details, if you do not provide an email address I will not be able to ask for updates and your translation is unlikely to be included in Toucan. Save it as toucan.po
  4. Translate the strings and when you close Toucan a file called toucan.mo will be created
  5. Copy toucan.po and toucan.mo to a folder called your language code and copy a lang.ini file from another language and update it
  6. Put the it under Toucan\App\toucan\lang and you will be able to use your translation

If you already have a translation:

  1. Go to http://drop.io/toucanlang and download the toucan.pot file
  2. Open your .po file and click Catalog->Update from POT file and choose the default.pot
  3. Update the translations as necessary

If you have create a new translation or updated an existing one if you could zip the files and upload them to http://drop.io/toucanlang site I would be most grateful and they will be included in the next release.

Is there a way to see each

Is there a way to see each string in "real life"? I'd be able to translate it much better.

Completed

OK I have used the help files and the Russian translation and have completed translating it into Bulgarian. As with any translation you can't always convey the meaning of some more specific technical terms (that's why I always use the English version), but I believe I've done a pretty good job considering most of the translations I've seen in Bulgarian. Another issue is I just got the software and only played with for a little while, so I don't know it that well and I don't get all the features so I might do a review and a new translation, should I consider and if there is ANY interest in getting the Bulgarian version coz we are quite a small country LOL.

Spanish translation, and a few issues

Good day,

I have decided to update the Spanish translation; it is already on drop.io.

A few issues I've encountered:

  1. The button "Expand All" is not translated.

  2. When a job is executed, and the progress window tells you what is happening, the "file x COPIED TO..." sentence does not translate the COPIED TO part.
  3. When adding a new job, there is an inconsistency in the windows that ask for the new name:
    • New Script works well (the title and the message are translated).
    • New Variable does not translate neither the title nor the message.
    • New Rule set does not show a title (in either language), but the message appears correctly in Spanish.
    • Secure, Backup and Synchronize all show the title in Spanish, but no message.
  4. I don't know if this is by design, but when creating a script, al least the command "Copy" has been translated (I haven't tried them all), while others like "Sync" have not. This makes it a little awkward. Also I believe scripts should not be translated at all to mantain compatibility.
  5. The string "Computer" is included in the language file, but I can't see it used anywhere (maybe I've missed it).

Congratulations on your fine application. I like Toucan, so much that I have recommended it for internal use where I work (that's part of the reason I've fixed the translation).

  1. I have fixed this
  2. This is fixed too
  3. And this Wink
  4. Yes, I plan to change this in a future release, you are right it is annoying
  5. It is present in 2.1.3, which is where the other text is fixed too Smile

¡Great news!. You're quick to

¡Great news!. You're quick to fix things. Smile

One other quirk I have noticed is during a script. In my particular case the script copies the same original files to two different backup locations.
When the script is running, the progress window tells me what files are being copied with their full path. The first part of the script shows well, but when the second copy procedure starts, the paths are shown truncated on the left.

Portable

Hi Steve,

I presume POEdit is a portable app too?

Since using portable apps I've become very hesitant to install any program on my machine that is not portable.

Paul

The Annoying beeps

This is a greatful and useful app!
Thanks!

But, a little request:
If you can add an option to cancel these annoying beeps from the computer's speaker.
I have used this app on my friend's computer, and he thought i'm trying to explode his computer.

Thanks again!

New italian file for toucan

Hello, i have updated the italian file for toucan.
It's already available into the repository on drop.io.

EDIT: The last file "toucanitalianupgraded.zip" is the final version of the italian file updated with the latest version of toucan.pot file. Obviously if the italian users of this program find any kind of error or typo into the italian file are strongly encouraged to contact me.

Toucan User Guide (spanish)

Dear Steven:

I'm starting to learn to use Toucan (in Spanish), but the contents of the Help tab remains in English. Therefore, I decided to translate most of this to create a user guide.

With the intention of facilitating the learning of Toucan for spanish speaking users, I upload this user guide in http://drop.io/toucanlang.

Greets, TitoHL.

How to update the translation file

Hello,
I have updated the italian language file a lot of time ago, but now there is a problem.
What I have to do to update the italian file due to the closing of drop.io and the unavailability of the updated template file?
Thanks to anyone who will reply to this post.

I'm

afraid the development of Toucan is currently halted, which is why there is no new location to upload the files to.

Launchpad

Sorry if I reply you only now, but haave you ever considered to host the translation file on Launchpad?
Launchpad is an hosting/online translation website and it's free for opensource projects.
A good thing is that website is supported from Canonical Ltd., the same society of Ubuntu Linux.
Some projects hosted and translated on this website are Ubuntu (of course), but there are many others like for example Inkscape, MySQL, Pinta and so on.
Take a look on it.
The website is http://www.launchpad.net
