Firefox logoMozilla Firefox - Portable Edition 1.5.0.7 has been released and is now even faster than before. Firefox Portable is the popular Mozilla Firefox web browser packaged as a portable app, so you can take your browser, bookmarks and extensions with you on your USB flash drive, iPod, CD or other portable device. This new release updates Firefox to 1.5.0.7 and has improved unicode support, better CD support on Windows 95/98, faster startup times and more. Read on for all the details...

What's New

Intelligent Start - Firefox Portable now uses an intelligent start system that keeps track of where you're running it from. That way, if you run it a second time from the same location or move to another PC that happens to give you the same drive letter, it won't have to do as much to start Firefox up.

Alternate INI Locations Dropped - To improve startup time, the alternate directory layouts for the FirefoxPortable.ini file have been dropped. It will need to be placed next to FirefoxPortable.exe. If you use an INI, you'll also need to update it with the new INI options. Read more about advanced options in the help.html.

Most Alternate Directory Layouts Dropped - To simplify the launcher, all alternate directory layouts have been dropped except placing the launcher one directory above the FirefoxPortable directory. Read more about advanced options in the help.html.

Improved Unicode Support - Firefox Portable has improved support for unicode, so you can drop a file with non-ASCII characters right on FirefoxPortable.exe and open it up.

Improved Live CD Support For Windows 95/98/Me - Live mode has been improved for better compatibility with most Windows 95, 98 and Me systems.

As of the previous release (and possibly even before that), you can just open Firefox Portable and click "check for updates", and download them. Firefox Portable stays exactly the same, except for now you have Firefox 1.5.0.7. Works for me anyway.

The launcher has new things like What's New

I already have it and am running it through the test suite (Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP, Vista and Wine).

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

the speed launcher shaved over 2 minutes off my start up time on my USB drive and halved the time for my hard drive install.

Portable apps have changed my life - and my main use for my I-pod. Love all of these programs 'cause now I don't have to lug a Laptop about or worry about WiFi security. Wicked - One question though - Does anyone have an idea about how to get portable Firefox to integrate with the GigaGet downloader? When trying to make it the default downloader for Firefox, Gigaget only searches for the firefox.exe file and wont recognise portableFirefox.exe -

Nope. You can't rename it to firefox.exe.. that's the only thing you can't name the launcher. Please continue this discussion in the support topic.

The portableapps has changed my life too, not to mention the life of my back, now that I don't have to lug my laptop around with me!

Unlike Sweden, here in my new homecountry, Slovakia, there are internetcafes in every corner (with real computers, not just gaming machines without USB access), so my wee 2Giger is always in my pocket.

In the previous version I didn't have this problem, but in older versions I had. On a Network (University) computer, that has Firefox installed (With no extensions) the Portable Firefox does not list any installed extensions. I will be going back to the previous version until this is fixed.
(Is there any way to keep the new faster (!) startup, with the old firefox version?)
In starting up, I normally have to startup the (new version, and old) Port. Firefox 2-3 times, go in to the control panel, close firefox.exe (2-3 times) and then reopen.
Is there any way to fix this?

just to thanks john once again for this, and all portable apps in there, which make things so much easier - no more hassle when doing a system restore or things, everything is still there (bookmarks, settings etc)

startup is indeed faster here, with this latest version

the support forum is the place for that question.

Side note:
At this rate of portable apps, I may never need my own computer again. Thank you.
