At last, official PortableApps.com's Opera release! I was waiting for it for a looong time. Thank you very much!!!

This is an entirely original build and not based on either Opera@USB or Opera Portable. We originally tried to connect with the Opera@USB developer to help him fix issues with the package and do a PA.c Format of it, but never heard back from him despite numerous attempts over several months.

Opera@USB is just a standard Opera build with multi-user turned off so it uses a single internal profile. As such, it's not fully portable as paths within operaprefs aren't updated as you switch PCs and it leaves a registry key behind on every PC or modifies it to point to the wrong install location if the local PC already has Opera on it.

Opera, Portable Edition adjusts paths within operaprefs as you move PCs and ensures that the registry is left unaltered on exit. It also better handles upgrades, automatically switches languages with the PortableApps.com Platform and works with the PortableApps.com Updater built into the 2.0 Platform. In short, it's the most full-featured portable version of Opera available. And it's done with permission from Opera Software ASA. As a bonus, the launcher is entirely open source (it's a standard PortableApps.com Launcher) so you know exactly what's being done.

I thought You forgot on promise about paf-ing Opera soon. Many months was no progress about Opera on PA.com and I thought that Opera never will be here.

I am glad to read many endeavour were from You and maybe others from PA.com team, despite no cooperation from Opera@USB team.

Once again, thank you. Smile

thank you for finally releasing Opera Portable!

i was searching about two weeks ago for a paf-version of opera, but only found rather old and disappointing posts in your forum.

so this release is a double surprise to me! ;o)

i use opera for about 10 years, and i really like "Opera Link" to syncronize all the data.

and the greatest thing is: now i can use all 3 browsers (firefox, chrome, opera) natively with portable apps!

thanks again, guys!

Some apps (like Opera) leave registry keys but the Launcher takes care of them. It makes a backup of possibly existing local keys, puts your portable ones into the registry, runs the app, copies the keys to your drive, restores the local ones and exits.

then at next startup, it won't run the application but restore AFAIK

If you people are right, then the laptop with the empty battery now has the portable-apps settings in its registry on the harddisk, whereas the laptop's original settings are now on the USB stick.

If I take the USB stick to a desktop computer while the laptop loads, will the laptop registry settings (that are now on the USB stick) then be restored to the desktop computer's registry?

No, the backuped local settings are stored locally (renamed IIRC).

On the desktop, I think it would either use the profile as it was before launching on the laptop, or start with an empty profile or fail.

But I also think it should still restore when you start it up on the laptop again.

If the computer crashes in the mean time, for apps using the PortableApps.com Launcher (currently released: Opera, gVim, NSIS, AssaultCube, PChat, Audacity and SMPlayer), you should run the portable app again and it'll restore the settings (just make sure you run it on the same computer).

Older app-specific launchers don't have this functionality and so they'll leave the computer messed up and you'll need to work out what to tidy up manually.

Avoiding having the computer die is obviously the best solution.

Good to see this coming as an official release, having used opera-usb for a while it's great to now have far easier updates via the portableapps 2.0 platform.
It's only the 2nd repackaging of pc/desktop opera i've come across!

Congratulations! Please, give a guide how to migrate from Opera USB transferring automatically all the configurations in use in Opera USB.

Nice to see this!
Now we have the 3 biggest browsers (I mean, true browsers) with portable versions. Great Job, guys!!

I don't use Opera myself but this is definitely somewhat of a coup for PortableApps.com. Congratulations!

hmm ... settings are not being saved
after a reboot opera loses all settings I made, bookmarks - the lot
some tiny glitch somewhere

We'll need a bite more info. Where did you install to (full path)? How are you starting it (OperaPortable.exe)? What OS? Did you manually copy a profile in? Anything else that's relevant?

To keep things centralized, please post it as a new message in the support forum here: https://portableapps.com/forums/support/other_apps

If we can determine the issue and reproduce it, we can push out a fix tonight or tomorrow.

Side Note: If by reboot you mean you're setting the PC to use Opera as the default browser by setting it within Opera, that won't work properly at the moment. You will be able to do it within the PA.c Platform shortly, though.

(Sorry for my bad english, i never learned it)

I've been using Opera USB a while ago and since you guys were releasing Opera Portable i switched to it. I used it with pleasure, but tonight it reseted itself to default settings. IDK how it happened, but everything is lost: all my bookmarks, the customized skin and taskbar, the urlfilters... etc. I checked the .ini files in all the subdirectories of the program and everything just did reset totally.

I'm using Win7 x64,
Full path of the program was D:\Portable\PortableApps\OperaPortable on my PC,
I haven't copied any files into the directory. Just closed the program and next time when I opened it, it was totally reset, like a fresh, clean install.

TBH i've seen similar before, when there were no existing portable versions of Opera browser, so i was just using the installer. It did reset itself sometimes to default settings by saving 2 of the major .ini files (i don't remember wich were those) somewhere outside of the program directory. But at last that error was correctable, bc i was able to move those files back inside the directory and everything worked fine again. Now i have no idea how was the program able to totally throw away all the personal settings i made.

Settings stored OK here - but I can't seem to find where to put the Flash plugin. In Opera-USB I simply copied it to the Programs/Plugins folder - anyone know where I should copy it to in this version?

EDIT: Never mind, found it! App/Opera/Program/Plugins DOH!

I have had a feeling something good was going to happen today, and I always anticipated PAc would release a portablized Opera. Now I have all the Web browsers that are on my computer on my flash drives. Thanks for all your hard work, Bravo!

I'm tired of people living in their fantasy world when the clock is ticking away, and when they are unable to see reality for what it is.

Thank you for releasing Opera 10 Portable. I prefer Opera-USB but its Opera all the same. I love Opera and I have been waiting for this for such a long time. Thank you so much.

Opera for the win!!!

Have just "installed" the new OperaPortable 10.62 on my PC, seems to be working great - good work John & all!!
Have been using Opera@USB for a long time, but I'll now probably switch to OperaPortable when I have it work and look the way I want, and I trust it will work as good as all my other portable apps.

Two questions though:
Why two profile folders - one at..\App\DefaultData\profile and another at ..\App\Opera\profile??

Migrating from Opera@USB: Found out the hard way that I cannot just copy my profile folder from, say, E:\Opera@USB\profile to (in my case) V:\OperaPortable\App\Opera\profile - that folder gets cleared when exiting PortableOpera, so how may I do this?

But again - much appreciated!!

EDIT: Migrating from Opera@USB to OperaPortable - this seems to be working: Copy profile folder from Opera@USB to BOTH profile folders mentioned above (might have to manually delete the profile folder under ..\DefaultData) and copy your "old" profile folder there. This seems to be working after a few restarts.

Normally you shouldnt touch anything that is inside the /App folder!
Everything inside the /App/DefaultData folder gets copied to /Data on first launch so there is no need to do anything with this folder.

Not having tried it myself, I would suggest you run the portableapps version once and then you copy the E:\Opera@USB\profile to /Data/whatever. If you run it once before you copy you know where each folder goes.

OK, that's clear. But this would imply (and is borne out by the fact that it works, even having moved the portable application around a bit on my computer) that when I put "my" old profile (from e.g. Opera@USB) in the profile folder under DefaultData, it's this profile that gets copied to the Data folder on first launch - or have I misunderstood something here?

thats right.
Generally, the problem with using a profile from another app is that the folder layouts might not match (as I said above).

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for this...expectant as a child at Christmas!!!

Opera is the ONLY browser that I use and since I share a computer with my roommate, my Opera is on my portable hard drive.

I've been using Opera@USB and have liked it (don't care for the 'other' popular portable version) but it has its issues.

So far, I really like this package and have been trying it out and it's been good to me and less resource intensive, faster than Opera@USB, just all around better.

Thank you so much...you are awesome, this is awesome, I'm looking forward to 10.70 final release!

Rocking for the One who is the Rock

I don't know if it's some setting with this version or what. . .

The styling behaves differently with this portable version than operausb. It styles links slightly differently as if the transition isn't respected in this portable version.

could it be a setting I'm missing?

Thx
