My own translation?

I would like to ask if I can customize translation of PortableApps platform?

A few weeks ago I start translating PortableApps platform, because it wasn't updated for long time. I just duplicated English language file as czech_alt.locale and start translating it in Notepad++. It was working, but next day or so there was update of platform to version 12.0.x (sorry I don't remember exact version) and while it came with a new Czech translation it also deleted my czech.alt file I unfortunately didn't backup.

Now I would like to know if, when I make some little changes (only for myself) to the locale file, or create a new file, will those changes (or new file) be deleted with a new upgrade of platform or not?

Hello Das Plum!

You can translate outside of the Platform folder Locale. Then test the updated file with copying in folder Locale (with replacing the existing locale file)

Maybe you could become a translator? Then your translated locale files are always be added to the platform. And translation will be able to use also other Czech users. It would be nice.

For translation you can use IniTranslator Portable. More information about translation you can get here.

And look for the Windows environment terms you can here.

Then you can arrange your file strings with Notepad++. As in this Latvian translation (contains Czech letters :)) - between each category is one empty line, the latest locale file contains a total 414 lines.

Finalized content of translated locale file you can post here (to discuss) and in PortableApps.com Platform 12.x Translations (for publication) topic. You can post directly to the forum comment, if used Preformatted (PRE) tag (Compose tips). Or Pastebin.com link.

Thank you for answer, I was

Thank you for answer,

I was translating it inside the platform locale folder, because I had immediate feedback about translation. I kind of don't like translate a text without actually checking if translation make a sense. I also didn't have an idea that platform update will delete my file. I thought it will stay in folder if it is not part of the installation file. It's good experience - I will backup the files now.

I tried the Ini translator, but I prefer to work with the Notepad++ (probably because I use it to translate another application).

There is not point to be translator here, because there is already good finished Czech translation. I just wanted to change some terms to a terms I use. For example instead "Explore Here" I would write "Go to app folder" etc.

Thanks for that "Windows environment terms" link - it is very helpful.
