Firefox Portable x64

Hello,

I am on the search for a 64 bit solution for Firefox. The reason being...

It's for use in an enterprise environment, we currently have Windows PE x86 configured with tools such as Firefox portable, 7-zip, data encryption / decryption tools, the windows recovery environment and MS DaRT.

Usually we could have made due with the x86 WinPE environment only, but our primary OS in the company is Windows 7 x64, so almost every machine has that. the windows recovery environment and DaRT x86 will not work on a 64 bit operating system, so a new 64 bit WinPE environment must be made that has these 64 bit components. It also means putting 64 bit only applications in it because WinPE x64 cannot run 32 bit applications at all.

Firefox from Windows PE isn't just used for simply googling, we use it so techs can get to internal web pages in order to obtain information needed for the machine they're working on, in regards to its encryption state and key, and allows them to download the necessary encryption files on the spot. 32 bit Firefox won't run in WinPE x64, nor does any other 32 bit application. I am in need of a 64 bit solution if this is possible.

Thanks!

Launcher x86

Our launcher is 32-bit, so even if you took an unofficial build of Firefox done for 64-bit (there are no real Firefox 64-bit builds), our FirefoxPortable.exe launcher wouldn't run on WinPE x64 either.

If you don't care so much about true portability, you could launch it with a simple batch file pointing to the profile. It'll leave stuff behind on the local PC (whatever concept WinPE has of that) in APPDATA and the registry and some things will break when the path changes, but it would let you carry the profile with you.

Hi,

Hi,

I'm looking for Firefox 52.9.0 x64 portable.

Search didn't help much, the best I found was Firefox 52.9.0 x32 portable available on PortableApps and non-portable version of Firefox 52.9.0 x64 on Mozilla website.

Update: after unpacking Firefox 52.9.0 x32 portable I found Firefox x64 folder. But when I click FirefoxPortable.exe on x64 system then Firefox x32 version is started, not x64.

Could someone help finding/starting Firefox 52.9.0 x64 portable?

Thank you.

Right Here

It's right here: https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox-portable-legacy-52

Dual mode 32-bit and 64-bit like all builds of Firefox Portable have been for years now. Note that it requires Windows 7 or higher for 64-bit.

Hi John,

Hi John,

thank you for rapid answer.

After unpacking Firefox 52.9.0 x32 portable I found Firefox x64 folder. But when I click FirefoxPortable.exe on x64 system then Firefox x32 version is started, not x64.

How can I start x64 Portable version?

Default

As long as you're doing a default install on Windows 7/8/10 of it using the PA.c Installer and not using a FirefoxPortable.ini file, it will automatically start the correct one.

Hi John,

Hi John,

thank you for note on compatibility. I need to run it on XP x64. Firefox 52.9.0 x64 doesn't start there whether from that folder or downloaded separately, i.e. non-portable version.

I found at Oldapps that the latest version of Firefox x64 compatible with XP x64 is 37.0.2 - a bit too old. I'd prefer to use 52.9.0.

Do you have an idea how to make 52.9.0 x64 run under XP x64? That would be super useful.

Thank you.

You Can't

You can't run Firefox x64 52.9.0 on Windows XP. The compiler used for it does not support Windows XP.

Your best option is to upgrade your operating system as there are no secure browsers that run on Windows XP any longer. Barring that, you can use Firefox Portable 52.9.0 in 32-bit mode on your machine as it is the most fully patched, but note that it has known security vulnerabilities that can allow a website to run any code they want on your PC.
