Hey everyone. after reading John's new update, i've taken it upon myself to create this thread. I think it would be a good idea to have a new one of these before each round of dev releases.
What apps do you think should be released in the next round of Developer releases? Among other things, keep in mind how useful the app would be portable and how popular it is. The apps also need to be ready enough to move to Pre-Release. The last round had 5 releases so i'm gonna go ahead and say list 5 and order them, with #1 being the most important.
Edit: there seems to be a lot of voting on apps that are not ready for release yet, such as inkscape, portableapps updater, songbird, etc. Please only vote on portable apps that are ready to go or that maybe just need a quick change before they're ready.

On popularity... look at the download numbers on SourceForge. If it only gets a few hundred a month, it's probably not popular enough unless it's a diamond in the rough type of app that people would really like in general like Jooleem for instance.
Also, is the project active. If it hasn't been updated in 2 years... it isn't. And if there are things missing from it... it may not be a good candidate.
Also, is it mature? If it's version 0.2 of an app that has bugs that could lose data (and it's something you don't want to lose)... then maybe not.

My five is not necessarily what I believe are the best, but they certainly are good applications. My list if a list of developers that have been working hard on their apps and deserve to have one released. These should all ve fairly close to be ready to go into pre-release.
I'd like to see some others go to, like Frets on Fire, but there's an update coming from powerjuce on that. I'd also like to take a look at one of digitxps apps that is useful and get it perfect to go. Same goes for jwyanze, pieterk and others.
There's also some others from developers that have had some released that I feel should go like NSIS but I think we should reward the other hard working developers first.
This list isn't all inclusive, and there is definitely others working hard, but I just picked a few I think deserve it and will be useful.
Although there are more good Apps out there ready to be released, I think your little list is a good point to start. I would add Markos PortableApps.com Updater and Babiloo. The updater is very useful and requested a lot and a dictionary (like Babiloo) is something i think is missing from our list. Maybe Babiloo isn't the best and there is a better dictionary out there but I´d still use what we have.

I would DEFINITELY like to see one of rab040ma's apps released, however most are Java, which may of not be supported, and it will be a while if it is. That's why I suggested PNGOptimizer, as sweet as Babiloo is, it's Java.
I agree with most of your post but try to remember this:
- Awarding hardworking devs I'm all for it, but you're inviting quantity instead of quality also. Also keep in mind some devs have only a few apps going because of the HUGE ammount of apps already in Beta without any progress on it being released.
My choices:
Frets On Fire (small tweaks coming up, like correct version number in appinfo.ini)
PNotes (Could be usefull, these notes)
InkScape (utterly usefull)
Quemu (To get those linuxes rolling)
Phun (because it's just phun)
Virtual Volumes View (To keep track of all these backup CD's and DVD's
On a sidenote... a app might be not active anymore, but if it has been completed and works well it might still be worth a look. Some apps might have reached their intended functionality, like games for example.
Look at usefulness rather than popularity. Who is to say a great app can't be hidden among the many that DOES only have 100 download, just because it's (still) unknown. It's not a pissing contest

All the apps I chose have hardworking devs, AND they're all in a pretty good state last I checked. PNotes is the only I haven't checked if the bug was fixed in, but before that it was good.
There was a bug with #8, but I squashed it and doubled back with a can of RAID.
#9 should be functioning properly.

I can't believe I'm saying this (since I'm the developer) it doesn't seem that popular right now. And as of now it isn't open source. Comming soon just hasn't reached us yet. When we can release freeware I would love to release Phun and Stickies.

Note on SpeedCrunch. There's this really odd issue where it can't write 'SpeedCrunch.ini' to Data\settings, but it can write any other file name. Either way, I may just have it write to Data\setting for now, and try to release it tonight.

Well, maybe I'm biased, but, ... okay, I am biased, but I think that BPBible Portable is probably something that some people would find useful.
(Could I have some people back me up? Has anyone found it useful?)
Only one bug has been found, and that was in BPBible itself, and a minor cosmetics issue which won't affect 95% (estimated) of people. That issue's going to address that shortly.
How do these download statistics compare to other apps?
I do think that it would be a good idea to wait for an automatic resource downloader, though; currently you have to download and extract modules manually.

yes i'm sure some people would find it useful, but the fact is that not everyone believes in the bible, and even less study the bible. Maybe this is only because i'm non-religious, but before everything else we should get out the apps that appeal to a broader range of people. also, i've never used it before but the project looks like it may not be very mature; it's only at release 0.2 and it doesn't even have a real website. i'm sure it can get released, but i would wait. just my option though, don't take any offense. also it's okay to vote for your own app but i would vote for some others too.

Ben was working on it for many months before he even released 0.1 (which went on benpmorgan.googlepages.com). 0.2 introduced a lot of new features, and fixed some bugs; some more bugs have been fixed since then, and development continues. I'll say more later.

It's coming... I'm going to be registering bpbible.com soon (God willing) and we'll be getting a website up for it.
An interesting comparison with Frets on Fire: FoF has 263 downloads of DT14 since the 1st, BPBible DT2 has 253 since the 6th.

i think some more OSs need to be released, like Linux or something else than the current Mac, not that its a bad OS, just that it doesnt do it for everyone, and i prefer Unix/Linux over Mac or Windows any day. lol. but just curious as to an idea of when we can expect some new operating systems? ok thanks guys

I just wanted to post the downloads for my server as a good chunk of the devs are on it. Don't let these influence you too much, and remember just because it's been downloaded a couple hundred times doesn't mean it's perfect and ready.

a good comparison, but shouldn't be used as comparison at first glance. For Example:at first glance it would seem like assault cube was the most popular download... but that is because the same version has been there for 2 months while other app's downloads are spread out to the different versions that have been released. the apps that didn't need to be updated any show a higher ranking. having said that i would also like to say that assault cube is still awesome and simeon got word back that we can do the app so i would like to change my vote to have Assault Cube be at the top.

I think the menu mod is so convienient and user friendly, it is worth being the new beta menu. Also, I made a mistake thinking the the Cafe MOD was a mod, since it says mod. I really LOVE the R30, and it has EVERY feature of the beta menu and more, while still remaining user friendly, (Unlike some other mods)

Deluge (use it daily and it works perfectly)

SMPlayer (it would be perfect if the smplayer.ini problem would be fixed ;))
Deluge it just waiting for an update for the developers in the next couple days to fix a bug with a 'deluge' folder created under the 'USERPROFILE', and we need to wait for a small maintenance fix from the author to fix = button on SpeedCrunch.

patience young friend. things are moving...quite slowly, but they are moving...apps are being released, a few others just got moved to pre-release the other day and there was a new official release as well.

Don't think the reason I want it to be released is because I love it. (In fact, I dont even own a Guitar Hero/Rock Band game, and I wont be any time soon) It's just, it seems ready. Also, Super Maryo Cronicles seems redy, and once the folder thing, and drive letter things get fixed, Mixx will be ready too.

Lots of other apps seem ready too. These things take time. FoF may have been available as a dev test for quite a long time, but it really wasn't ready until recently.

I meant that it was ready since Dev test 14. I really dont see any changes in 15, except a minor reference issue, which really seems minor. (Theses actually one in Thunderbird)

I'd like to see TiLP made portable. TiLP is a fully Open-Source linking program for Texas Instruments' graphing calculators. It works with all hardware/virtual cables and supports all Ti Graphing Calculators (73, 82, 83, 83+, 84+, 85, 86, 89, 89tm, 92, 92+ and V200).
If TiLP was portable, I would be able to stuff my Ti-84+ link cord in my backpack, and interface with my calculator when I'm at school, which would be particularly useful.

I think once we release NSIS Portable, XN Resource Editor Portable, etc, RegShot can be throw in with them.
Regshot is a verry important app. It is used in the creation of nearly every app. Why not make it official?

Maybe it's just me, but I'd really like to see more IDEs / interpreters / compilers / dev packages. Python has been done portably, and quite well -- Portable Python is the package I use every day -- but it'd be nice to see it here, and maybe something more full-featured like pythonwin thrown in there, too. I don't know, though. Aren't there other languages people would use more? Maybe some Java distribution?
I like Notepad ++, and use it for just about everything, but it also seems like we could use another option on the text editor front. I don't know if that'd be gratuitous, however.
Personally, I'm learning Oracle, so I'd also like to see some integration of some SQL developer stuff, too, although I know that there are already portable options. I'm showing my bias, I guess. I have plenty of options on lots of these things which get the job done, but portableapps.com stuff is always higher-quality -- so, in my selfish way, I'd rather all the things I use be done here by you guys than by anybody else.

I think SMplayerPortable should be one of the official apps.
It is the best video player i've used and i've been using it for ages now. Much better than VLC IMHO (although i keep vlc as a second option).
It is working perfectly and it is currently up-to-date as new versions come up thanks to prapper.
I would say the most useful would be FreeOTFE and FreeOTFE Explorer. Security software is a key issue since USB drives are so easily lost and misplaced - having everything secured away is vital.
FreeOTFE gives disk encryption - both with a driver and driverless operation, for when I'm away from home, and is rock solid.
Truecrypt is the only significant alternative - but it isn't as intuitive, has a *very* unprofessional user interface, and can't be used on any computers away from home because it needs drivers - which makes it totally unsuitable for portableapps - unlike FreeOTFE Explorer.
