Application: GoogleEarthCategory: EducationDescription: Google Earth is a virtual globe program.
Notes:
Google Earth is a virtual globe program that was originally called Earth Viewer. It maps the earth by the superimposition of images obtained from satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS 3D globe.
Google Earth lets you fly anywhere on Earth to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings and even explore galaxies in the Sky. You can explore rich geographical content, save your toured places and share with others.
Google Earth displays satellite images of most inhabited regions of Earth, allowing users to visually see things like houses and cars from a bird's eye view. The degree of resolution available is covered in at least 15 meters per pixel and up to the highest resolution of about 15 cm (6 inches) per pixel.
Google Earth allows users to search for addresses for some countries, enter coordinates, or simply use the mouse to browse to a location.
After you download this launcher place it in the appropriate folder (ie. X:\PortableApps\GoogleEarthPortable) and then execute it. It will prompt you for the location of the googleearth on your pc from where it will copy necessary files, and your ready to go.
I also need to thank Klonk on his excellent Portable Application Template which helped me in developing launchers. You can find his template here.

Looks like it'll work.
But a few things:
Nice work on getting some apps done!

This needs to be packaged in a proper installer that creates the directory to run it from, includes source code for launcher (or a link to it), a help file, etc.
Why isn't the location of Google Earth read in from the registry instead of the user being prompted for it's location? There are a ton of places to get this info, but one good one may be:
If getting the info from the registry isn't possible, how about looking in the default install location at a minimum?

I tested out both the Google Earth launcher, and the Google Talk app (should have tested them separately, but I tested all at once... my fault)
I noticed after testing that a there was a Seba folder in my Documents and Settings folder (XP SP2). The Seba folder contained an Application Data folder, with a Google folder inside of it. There were a couple files in these folders.
I deleted the Seba folder and re-ran both programs. The folder wasn't recreated, and both worked fine.
Just something to look at if this is going to be fully portable.
Thanks!
@ivewrittenitdown
I made some changes, now it shouldn't create folder, please check.
@all
link to the (start) source is provided in the description.
there's supposed to be source folder, with stuff like a readme.txt and the splash.
Are you trying to get this to be official?

Linking to a template is not the same as providing your source.

I don't plan to make an installer (license issues), and it would be just pointless to make the installer just for launcher. I released this because I thought someone can use it, if you thing the launcher is not good, don't use it.
About the source, readme, etc. Source it is basically the same as the template, you just define few variables in the template, at the beginning of the file, dump reg keys for app and that is it.
My English isn't that good. and that is why I'm keeping file count at he minimum.
As long as you don't put in Google Earth, it's perfectly legal. It's not just the launcher that's being installed, the installer autoselects the right folder, checks if there's enough room, then installs the App/Data/Other.
Yes, we know, but if you want to use the PAT, you have to provide the source as it's GPL, and all derived works must be too (I think).
You don't have to do it in English, you can make it in (Albanian/Hungarian? Based on your country selection.) and then ask somebody to translate it in the localization forums.

I was actually checking the lists of other registered members to see if there were others from his/her home country who could help translate.
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
and then maybe someone else here can translate it? I know so many of the official programs are done in English by default, but why not in some other language?

Is this still going ahead?

If you don't know leave everything as it is. It is just to minimize app footprint on the usb drive. And since cache file uses a lot of space, MB or two won't make much difference.
I know this forum is kind of old, but if you just recently saw it, go to this website to get a free version of google Earth.
(EDIT: I removed the link, suspected warez site)
Sorry Pyro but this link is to a warez site. Also it is I believe a thinapped version of Google Earth. Meaning it is an Illegal distribution Lastly I have tried that site before and some downloads were flagged as containing viruses. More so than the usual false positives you get with thinapped apps. Be careful.
Mod please remove link to Warez site and if possible this post commenting on it.
Thanks

that still is linking to warez, as redistributing google earth in any manner is ILLEGAL. this point has been pushed many times. also, thinstall/thinapp is frowned upon here, so a suggestion would be to not keep linking to your illegal version of google earth portable.

You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
how do i remove the link?

a forum moderator will have to edit your post.

No, you can edit it by yourself (like I did). just delete the link.
if someone posted underneath like I did you can't edit the post anymore.

now he is actualy using the symbol of portable apps, just changed the colour.
I was also tempted at some time, and downloaded few things there. But experience was not only positive. Some versions seems to be ok, being more less from here. Others are thinapped and warezed and might work, others are so strange packed, that wil make a big mess of your system. Some apps I should have switched my brain on first before running them, since they had to start lot of services which were not simple to be switched off later and all the drivers and configs it did write to registry was not easy to be removed. Apparently most of the things are not tested in any reasonable way appart from it runs on the authors system just now by luck...
I had to recover one of my w2k laptops from an image, so big was the destruction after an experiment with software from the p......z site.

Thanks for this.
Works great. Haven't done a regshot but must say I like : )
I think this is a great app to have in readiness for when PA.com can officially do freeware : )
Hope you maintain this.

I used the PAF installer and recommend it to others and for its continued development : )

sorry, what does PAF stand for?

Portable Apps Format Installer. The Google Earth Portable.paf.exe in the original post. Its a PAF installer.

Just because we can do freeware, doesn't mean we'll be able to do all freeware apps. AFAIK, Google is fairly strict in their license terms with this, and I'm pretty sure they don't allow redistribution of modified packages.
Edit: Here's the relevant section:
You agree that you will not, and will not allow any third party to, (i) copy, sell, license, distribute, transfer, modify, adapt, translate, prepare derivative works from, decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble or otherwise attempt to derive source code from the Software, unless otherwise permitted
The parts about distribution and derivative works are the killers.
"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate."
Maybe we could have it set in preparation for when we do freeware and then negotiate with Google. I don't know what their lawyers are like but one would think that considering PA.com isn't trying to profit or take credit for Google, and that in the past we have collaborated quite well on software like Firefox and OPenOffice, it should give us a good enough CV and track record to have them seriously consider allowing us to port it officially or for them to port it using the PA format.

This is a regshot for the PAF installed version. I ran the app which installed Google Earth on work pc, copied files over using the automated setup you have (And I like : ) )then ran the app on home pc which has never had Google Earth installed and this is the regshot result.
Hope this helps : )

looks like seba needs to make his launcher take care of "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth Plus" because by the looks of that regshot, it isn't properly cleaning up.
@seba: does your code backup the settings of a local copy of google earth? i seem to recall another g.earth launcher that didn't and as a result messed up the local install.

@TaffinFoxcroft
Yes, it does (should).
I missed HKLM key because I'm using non admin account and by default I can't write in HKLM reg hive, so that did not happen to me
I fixed it. Enjoy.

and I liked it. But I had to delete it after I was running out of space on my drive. There have been a ton of requests even after you released it. Now that PortableApps.com allows freeware, why don't you restart its development? I tried downloading it again and the link had broken.
