Beta Testing

I've just posted a pre-release of Audacity Portable 1.2.4 and need some folks to test it out. For the unfamiliar, Audacity is a versatile sound recorded and editor with support for MP3, Ogg and WAV. It has built-in effects, an easy to use interface and support for a wide array of plugins. This release has many of the features of the other new apps, plus some new stuff:

Live CD Support - Audacity Portable fully supports running from a CD. Just extract it to your local hard drive, run it at least once and configure it to your liking, and burn it to CD.

In-Place Upgrades - Audacity Portable supports the ability to do what I'm calling an "in-place upgrade". This means that you can extract it right over an existing installation of Audacity Portable without losing any of your existing preferences and it'll Just Work (tm).

I've just posted a pre-release of 7-Zip Portable 4.42 and need some folks to test it out. For the unfamiliar, 7-Zip is a solid file archiver that supports 7z, Zip, RAR and several other formats. This release has many of the features of the other new apps, plus some new stuff:

I've been planning on portablizing a small, fun game for inclusion in the Portable Apps Suite for a while now. And it hit me while playing Brain Age's Sudoku puzzles on my Nintendo DS the other day... why not Sudoku? Well, after searching through all the open source implementations, one seemed pretty solid. So, we now have Sudoku Portable. It's under 400k installed. Very fast. Has 4 modes of difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard and Impossible). Allows you to enter possible solutions by holding the shift key down (only the regular numbers, not the numeric keypad). And it automatically saves your game between sessions. It's also got all the other features of the new apps including in-place upgrade support, Live CD compatibility (no changes needed after running it once), works on Windows 95 and up, and is even mostly compatible with Wine (it just won't save your game or settings when you exit).

I've just posted a pre-release of GIMP Portable 2.2.12 and need some folks to test it out... especially if you've had problems with Portable GIMP or Portable Gaim in the past. For the unfamiliar, GIMP is an image editor taht supports most popular image formats. This release has many of the features of the other new apps, plus some new stuff:

I've just released a new FileZilla Portable Launcher that corrects some issues with the current release:

Unicode Command Line - The GetParameters function has been updated to handle unicode paths passed to FileZillaPortable.exe on the command line.

INI File Path - The INI file path ends up with a double-slash after the INIPATH variable when constructed (\\) which may cause issues on some unpatched Win95/98 systems.

FileZilla.exe Not Found - This error occurs if you place the FileZillaPortable.exe launcher one directory above FileZillaPortable.

I've just released a new Firefox Portable Launcher that corrects some issues with the current release:

Unicode Command Line - The GetParameters function has been updated to handle unicode paths passed to FirefoxPortable.exe on the command line.

Read-Only Attribute on Live - When RunLocally is used from a burned CD, the files copied locally have the read-only flag set. This may cause problems with certain functions. The files are now set to Normal attrib after being copied.

FindProc Stack - A possible issue has been fixed whereby the process that checks to see if Firefox is already running could return an improper result if there is a value in the stack. (No previous code sets any stack values, so this wasn't yet an issue... but it could become one in the future)

UPDATE Aug 21 This release has been superceded by the Gaim Portable 2.0 Beta 3.1 Pre-Release

For the unfamiliar, Gaim is a multi-network instant messaging client that works with AOL, MSN, Yahoo, etc. This release has many of the features of the other new apps, plus some new stuff:

Live CD Support - Gaim Portable fully supports running from a CD. Just extract it to your local hard drive, run it at least once and configure it to your liking, and burn it to CD.

I've just posted a pre-release of Miranda IM Portable 0.5 and need some folks to test it out. For the unfamiliar, Miranda IM is a very customizable instant messaging client that supports all the major networks. This release has many of the features of the other new apps, too:

Live CD & Read-Only USB Support - Miranda IM Portable fully supports running from a CD or from a USB flash drive set to read-only mode. For CD use, just burn a copy once you've run it and configured it to your liking. It will auto-detect being read-only and offer to run locally as well, which is handy for USB flash drives with read-only switches.
