Bookmarks toolbar and Accepting ULA

Submitted by Freeballer on November 21, 2006 - 7:10pm

I just downloaded portable firefox 2,
I just copied my prefs.js to apps\defaultdata\profile and my other settings have saved (etc. always show tab bar) but the bookmark toolbar is still enabled and I want to get rid of it permanently. I also copied all other files into same directory and it still shows that bleeping toolbar.
Slso stop asking for accepting the ula if possible.

Help! Download Manager Doesn't Work At All!

Submitted by ngocdt on November 21, 2006 - 5:44pm

Okay. So it doesn't crash anything. But it doesn't do anything either. If I click save image somewhere, it will download, but nothing happens in the manager. No status bar, no "open file button" or anything!

Someone did suggest changing the "save download file to:" folder... but that didn't help either. In fact, I tried to specify a folder to download in, but if I try to download another image, it will still ask me where to save it!

What's going on and how do I fix it?

Migrating from PStart to Portable Apps Suite

Submitted by PollieXmas on November 21, 2006 - 3:32pm

Hi All,

I'd like to clean up all my portable apps to ensure that there are no redundant files and that the profile structure is correct.

As I see it I have two options.

1) Export the profile extention data out of FF in use and import it into the (blank) FF in the portable app suite.

2) Overwrite the (new/blank) data FF directory in the portable apps suite with the data directory currently in use.

I'd prefer to start on a clean sheets with all my portable apps, i.e. use the executables as shipped in the suite rather than copy the old/upgraded apps currently in use into the new suite.

shockwave install instructions don't work

Submitted by squeezebox on November 21, 2006 - 3:21pm

I followed the instructions here, which state

#1 Download the free Shockwave Player from the Macromedia website

#2 Run the installation routine and, instead of letting it install to a local browser, select to choose your browser

Trouble is, when I installed shockwave, it never offers this option. The only input it allows the user is whether to install google toolbar. After it's finished installing, my IE pops up automatically, I have no control over it. I never get the option to install to, or use, FFportable at any time.

Anyone not running U3 but running FF 2.0 and Avast! Anti-Virus?

Submitted by LynnL on November 21, 2006 - 1:47pm

If so, can you check your FF profile dir? Mine gains lots of temp files FF is NOT cleaning up. Shutting down Avast! stops this, but I am also running U3 launcher and even corporate-mandated MicroTrend on my host, so just need to know if these are relevant details or not.

Is Firefox Portable anonymous?

Submitted by riojan on November 20, 2006 - 7:21pm

Hi,

Is Firefox portable traceable? If I use this browser on my work computer and send email through this browser will 'IT' be able to track me, the places I visit and email I have sent with this? Howabout Thunderbird? I am not sure about this and need to know for sure. I know Firefox leaves no trace of personal info but can someone tell if I was using the application at all?

Thanks for your help-

Yahoo toolbar

I get to the Normal place to load it, it starts but says it will not load! I can't save the extension.xpi to 'USB' then install VIA "FILE:open file".

Running Multiple Instances of Firefox 2.0 ?

Submitted by r4d0x on November 19, 2006 - 8:15pm

Hi,

I run portable firefox from a networked drive on several Windows XP PCs. But whenever I log-in to a second machine, I have to close firefox on the first PC, otherwise I get the message:

"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system"

Having read the forums, I see that the decision was taken to disable the .INI file option to enable multiple instances... Is there anyway I can re-enable that? Or if possible, could it be re-enabled for users like me?!

Many thanks, and keep up the

Session Saver / Crash Recovery

Submitted by PDD on November 19, 2006 - 7:24pm

Hi Guys,

I am having a problem with slow portable FireFox 1.5.0.8, now Ive done some searching and it would appear that this issue is related to the following two root causes.

a) Some session or crash recovery extensions I have installed e.g. TabMix Plus

b) The thumb-drive that I am using

Both of the above seem to be valid reasons and yes disabling session saving does speed up the drive however the problem is that I LOVE saved sessions because I don't have to remember to do anything when I'm closing Firefox. So the question is how can I get around this?

Also the issue is intermittent not persistent so its fine some days and then sometimes all of a sudden it grinds to a halt and this seems to be independent of the number of tabs open. As its intermittent it would rule out the possibility of B but also if I run portable FF 2.0 then its fine while 1.5.0.8 is dead. So I would guess that it would leave me with the session saver as being the root cause but portable FF 2.0 has session management too why isn't this affected?
