PFirefox: "Firefox is already running", but Firefox ok

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on March 6, 2006 - 12:45pm

Hi

I have read the topics on this subject, and since I am encountering the same problems, I am posting my findings.

I have a new installed computer with XP Pro+SP1. I burn a CDR with Portable Firefox along with Apache (portable configuration of it), and PHP. My application is working fine using default browser installed on my computer like normal Firefox and IE.

When I launch portable firefox from CDR either automatically or by double clicking on the EXE, I get the now well famous message: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." Needless to say, that I did not change an inch of the config of firefox, nor the EXE name, nothing at all. I am using what has been packaged and extracted.

Gray Tab?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on March 2, 2006 - 7:17pm

Hey John,
I did the tutorial on johnhaller.com to make portable firefox look like internet explorer, and in the adress input area there is a large gray tab on the right. I assume that this is for feeds, how do I remove it? Any help given would be appreciated.
Thanks

Cannot download files

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on March 2, 2006 - 5:30pm

I'm using the latest version of portable firefox on a Memorex u3 256meg. Works fine on the xp computers at school, but when I try to run it on win2000 pro at home I'm not able to download any files. "Save picture as," "save link as" etc. all give me a split second of hourglass, then nothing. This feature works fine in regular firefox and IE on the same machine. is this just a 2000 bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Firefox requests an update

Submitted by nttuzydupcpm on February 24, 2006 - 10:46am

Is there a problem if Firefox updates itself? I have the current PortableApps Suite with Firefox 1.5, but Firefox told me it needed to update. So I let it, but it apparently only went from 1.5 (portable) to 1.5 (non-portable, I guess).

Is this a problem?

Extensions are not loading

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 24, 2006 - 10:16am

I am using since several weeks pFF, which is loaded on a USB-drive, and I am encountering some problems with it. On some PC (regardless of operating system Win2000 or WinXP) when I start the programm the extentions are nor loading. Checking the extention menue it says that these will be installed when I will restart pFF. On other PC the extensions work perfectly well. Does anyone have an explanation for this behaviour?? What can I do (check, change) when the extensions fail to load???
I appreciate any help very much.

offline reader?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on February 20, 2006 - 8:18pm

Hello,
My work often leaves me with plenty of free time, but no net connection.

I'd like to read the net at work. Currently I sometimes open a bunch of websites and save them to my USB-iPod, then open them at work.

If there is a really easy way of configuring an offline reader I'd love it - I have to admit I only just read about portable-firefox so I hadn't thought too much about it till now.

Any thoughts are appreciated,
THANKS
Greg
ps. I use a Mac... I guess that doesn't make a difference? I can setup a PC easy enough though.
