SRWare Iron

SRWare Iron

SRWare Iron: The browser of the future - based on the free Sourcecode "Chromium" - without any problems at privacy and security

Google's Web browser Chrome thrilled with an extremely fast site rendering, a sleek design and innovative features. But it also gets critic from data protection specialists , for reasons such as creating a unique user ID or the submission of entries to Google to generate suggestions. SRWare Iron is a real alternative. The browser is based on the Chromium-source and offers the same features as Chrome - but without the critical points that the privacy concern.

We could therefore create a browser with which you can now use the innovative features without worrying about your privacy.

We want our users to participate in our work and make the browser free to download under the name "SRWare Iron" into the net.

What does Iron makes different? Chrome vs Iron. Read here.

I'm still on it.

I haven't given up on Iron; I'm planning on pushing the latest build ASAP. I just haven't been able to get to it yet. I'm having difficulty finding time to get online and even more difficulty getting some developing done, thanks to a set of software restrictions on the computer I'm stuck working with.

I have given up on portable passwords for now, since they require too much time and a development environment I no longer have. If the latest version of Iron doesn't natively support portable passwords, though, I can and will ask SRWare to implement them.

Aside from DoubleCommander (a relatively low priority), I believe my little apps are all up to date. That means only my big apps are left, and Iron's first on the list.

Chrome Launcher

What's the issue with just using the Chrome launcher for this updated for Iron? There's no need to reinvent the wheel here.

Worth a shot

It's worth a try. I was going to just use PAL, but I can take the Chrome launcher and see what I can do with it. (I can't use PAL with the existing PortablePasswords, since PAL uses Unicode and PP uses Ansi. That's what started the whole mess with me trying to rewrite PP, and that really didn't go well.)

Quick Conversion

It should be a quick conversion since I believe they use basically the same structure for settings and passwords

Yep

Last time I checked (somewhere between v5.0 and v7.0) they did. I may have to delete some stuff from the launcher (Chrome had a few features Iron didn't, if I recall correctly) but it shouldn't be that big a deal. I'll see how quickly I can get that done, tested, and pushed out.
