Hey.
I just updated my portable Skype to the new version. But every time I try to login to Skype it crashes. So I tried to install it to a new folder to have an "clean" installation but it's the same issue. Any ideas?
Thank.
p.s. OS: Windows 7 64bit
It's a bug related to this: https://portableapps.com/news/2011-04-10_-_skype_portable_5.3.0.108_rele...
It'll be fixed in a revision in a few hours.

I've installed the Rv2 but it still crashes during login.
Need more info like operating system, exact full install location, whether you are running it in a "Compatibility Mode" under Vista/7 to make the taskbar icon not always shown (hint: this will cause it to crash, you can't do it anymore) and anything else you can think of.

Ok the reason for the crash was the compatibility mode. What a pity that this workaround is no longer working. Thank you very much for the help!
There's a setting for it now: https://portableapps.com/news/2011-04-13_-_skype_portable_5.3.0.108_rev_...

Thanks again. I didn't know that this option is available.
This solution might not be solution for portable Skype but this is definitely the work around of Skype 5.3. Please allow me share this solution. You just need to delete the shared.xml file under the App data directory/skype and everything will be working. check the under given Link for further details.

Got this to work in the end:
1) The path to the files on my installation is PortableApps\SkypePortable\Data\settings
2) Had to delete all the temp-* files as per a comment on the linked thread, as well as the shared.xml file
Cheers,
Dave.
I don't know if it is the same error. I've read everything but I could not fix.
I'm using WinXP and the PC itself has Skype installed, but I want to user only my Portable Skype. They're both the same version (5.8.0.154).
The version installed on PC works very fine but the Portable version crashes. I've watched Task Manager and I can see that SkypePortable.exe starts, then Skype.exe starts soon, then suddenly both disappear from process list.
I deleted SkypePortable folder then I've installed again but I've got the same behavior as described above.
PS: None of Skype files is in "Compatibility Mode".
