Good & Bad News for Vista Upgrade Status on U3 Drives

reprint from http://www.everythingusb.com/

The good news is that U3 launchpad version 1.4 and higher supports Vista. The bad news is that the update can only be obtained from the U3 drive manufacturers as U3 does not distribute Launchpad updates. If they are slow at adopting the new U3 core, then you will have wait longer or perhaps will shell out for a new drive instead. There are more complications due to Vista compatibility with the mobile apps themselves and the legacy hardware issues that prevent launchpad upgrade for some U3 drives. For example, Sandisk U3 drives with firmware 2.1.5 and 2.2.1 support Vista while firmware 2.1.6, 2.1.7, 2.1.8, 2.2.0 do not. No words about status from Verbatim, Memorex, PQI on their upgrade timeline, but Sandisk will post 1.4 updates in March.

aptiva u3 update

http://www.clever-stuff.ie/support/index.shtml
follow this link and you will read that only units bought in europe are supported for the vista update.
you cannot get an update except through the update function in the launchpad while running in xp etc.

there is no vista update for aptiva drives bought at office depot in the U.S.
as of 8/27/07

Last I checked (a couple days ago)
Disk2Go, Intuix, Kingston and Verbatim had LaunchPad updates on their website.
And if you don't mind having a LaunchPad from a different manufacturer on your drive, you can hex edit the installer to install to your drive if you have a different manufacturer.

to edit the installer anyone

to edit the installer anyone who's manufacturer has not released a patch can use SmithTech's directions using the link below:
http://usb.smithtech.us/projects/u3updater.php . It works fine, just download an update from another manufacturer using the links above. just use universal extractor to extract the Launchpad.iso from it and replace the one provided in the cracked installer
