Portable Apps Search

Submitted by Jacob Mastel on July 19, 2008 - 5:03pm

Sorry if my topic is a little misleading. I know John makes money off of google adds as well as a google search engine here. Personally I try to use this as much as I can to support the site. However a lot of the time it's just not convienient and I just automatically go up to the little thing in my top right corner as I'm sure many people do. Is it possible to create a button for that search bar? Something simmilar to how we have the search for the forums is it possible to create one for our own google search?

Leftovers from Mojopac

Submitted by palapaguy on July 19, 2008 - 1:26pm

I made the mistake of installing the free version of Mojopac on the flash drive that I use for PA. Didn't like it and removed the Mojopac files, but this didn't get rid of it completely.

I changed the volume label back, but "MojoPac" still shows beside the drive letter at the bottom of the PA launcher, and under MyComputer, but not on the DOS prompt. I reinstalled the PA suite over the old one but that didn't help.

USB-pendrives or USB-HDD enclosures with useful, unique, special or cool features

Submitted by jps on July 19, 2008 - 4:58am

We all know the standard plain pendrives or USB-HDD's. Long time I wasn't aware that there are other useful features are available and I think other people to. This thread is to show and to discuss pendrives and USB-HDD's with advanced "unusually" features.

Portable Apps on Linux

Submitted by teekay on July 18, 2008 - 12:32pm

I have checked to see if there is anything on this topic and if I missed it mea culpa
Having bought an Asus eeepc 701 I lamented he loss of my Portable Apps, however I have found that if 'Wine' is installed on the host Linux then P.A. will launch via 'Wine' and appear in the bottom right of screen as normal.
As this is already running under 'Wine' programs on the P.A.menu will launch in the same way as they do on Windows although with a little bit of screen flashing and chundering.

Just wanted to let you know I'm back after being offline for a few days. I've been under the weather pretty bad. I'm not at 100% yet but I'm good enough to get some things done. Releases continue this afternoon.

Flash drive "speed"

Submitted by palapaguy on July 17, 2008 - 9:25pm

I've seen flash drive speed discussed in terms of read/write data transfer rates, which I can understand if I'm transferring large files. But how does it relate to launching and running programs, which is what I really care about?

What's important to me (and I would spend $$ to speed up) is the time needed to launch and start using an app.

When an app is launched, is it read into RAM and executed there? If so, I can see that transfer rate is important. Or, does it run on the drive? In that case does advertised "speed" relate to program execution?
