How to repopulate portableapps launcher with icons from my portable apps

Submitted by jojothehobo on March 2, 2016 - 2:58pm

Hi:
After a glitch, my portable apps launcher no longer works.
1. I have a portable apps launcher that opens fine but contains no portable apps icons listed in the space where they normally would go. In other words it gives me the grey box with the icons for "Documents .....to help" on the right side, and, on the left half of the box, a search box at the top and "all apps" at the bottom, but no app icons in the white box in between.
2. I have a portable apps folder with around 70 portable apps that work fine standalone,

Windows 10 and setting a portable app as a default applciation

Submitted by NaturalBornCamper on March 2, 2016 - 8:57am

Hey guys,

I've been setting file types to portable applications from the platform, like setting all video types to Media Player Classic and this works well. I only had to select a video, click "open with" then choose MPC from the custom program button and set as default.

After that, I could easily go in the Windows settings and select MPC for every video type without having to set every single video file extension to MPC.

Automatic update option

Submitted by jeth on March 1, 2016 - 11:31pm

The automatic update, which has been available for some time now, might be a little better if there was an option to change the sequence in the process.

Now, all up[dates are downloaded before any updates are applied. If, for some reason, the process is interrupted, the whole process must be restarted.

If the process were to download and update each item before continuing to the next item, this would save the rerun from beginning problem.

Help: my portable apps launcher died

Submitted by jojothehobo on February 29, 2016 - 1:41pm

Hi:
I was updating PortableApps this morning. The one updated app was the PortableApps platform (at around 4 MB). It downloaded, but wouldn't install. I got an error message that the update failed. No problem so far, that happens every once in a while. However, when I went to launch portable apps later this morning the platform didn't launch, either from the shortcut or the program itself.

I got an error message:
Cannot Open File

App that will do PC audits

Submitted by gwt10 on February 22, 2016 - 5:06pm

I'm looking for an app that will do PC audits including all the KB updates from Microsoft.

Right now when I go into "View Update History", all the KBs aren't sorted and it's hard to see what updates are installed on my machine. I'm looking for something that will sort these out better than what Windows offers

portableapps dot com Vs. "naturally portable"

Submitted by jeangab on February 19, 2016 - 6:58pm

Hi,

I had to find a title... Please let me explain what I meant by "naturally portable".
I have been using portable apps for a while and find it very handy. Most of the time, I download them from portableappsCom (thanks a lot). However, some apps can be downloaded directly from their own websites as a portable bundle, usually a zip file. One just unzip and runs the exe.
Examples : VirtualDub, FreeFileSync (installer provides a portable installation type), WinMerge.
