Install and Download Simultaneously

Submitted by saliva on September 30, 2013 - 6:43pm

When updating more than one app, I notice the updater initially downloads all the apps before installing them. This is fine if you have a very limited number of apps, but I found it quite annoying sitting through a long wait (especially so when the download speed dropped to 30 kb).

Hence, I have a solution. Since it takes longer to download than to install an app, why not use that time to install the prior downloaded app (eg. install the first app while the second app is being downloaded)?

System Restore reverted PA updates?

Is it possible that a system restore reverted some of the recently updated PortableApps? I restored from a restore point made on Sept. 21 and apps that I had already updated within the last week including Stellarium, CintaNotes, RawTherapee, Stinger, Free Download Manager, and Smart Defrag all needed re-updated after it got restored.

I have them on the hard drive

Using jportable

Submitted by Andyphung on September 26, 2013 - 5:34am

I downloaded and installed both Jportable launcher and Portable java.
When I open Jportable launcher it pops up to choose a jar file but Jar file itself does not open up (MPXJ.JAR file).
Could anyone please help me to open up this MPXJ.Jar file. (I have no administration privilege)
Thanks in advance!

did not close properly last time it was run and will now clean up. Please then start xxx manually

Yes, I found the now-closed and long-running thread about this error message. My issue is slightly different, or perhaps here is new information.

My ongoing problem is with System Explorer. I completely deleted the entire System Explorer folder and replaced it with a fresh install. I'm still getting the error!

I had thought the program startup status would have been set or flagged somewhere in the app data or ini... BUT this seems to suggest that the error is held in the registry instead (which makes me wonder about portability, but that's not at issue here).

Possible VIRUS!!! - Smart Defrag

Submitted by getco on September 25, 2013 - 5:51am

Hello,

Just as I was browsing using the latest Firefox Portable, a new Tab opened up with this page:

Update to Smart Defrag V2.9.0- Now Easier, Faster and More Accurate!

(I have taken a screenshot of it in case it disappears)

First of all - I do have SmartDefragPortable, but haven't used it in ages, definitely haven't launched it today - absolutely, positively certain of it!

So how in the world does a portable app, that hasn't been opened (in ages!) force my browser to open up a page?

How to install MSI before main EXE and then uninstall this MSI on exit

Submitted by NS0001 on September 25, 2013 - 3:43am

Hi,

I could not understand docs and could not find examples
how to install MSI file before launching main EXE file.
I should uninstall this MSI on exit.

I don't understand how to make plugins here:

P.A. 12 Beta 2

(FYI)I've been testing Portable Apps 12 Beta 2 for quite some time on Windows 8 64 with great success. But one feature I'd like to see in the next release is a way to "lock" the Portable Apps window open. Example:
