Does DamnVid work for Everyone?

Submitted by Gayan Perera on February 22, 2012 - 4:24am

DamnVid doesn't seem to work for me - I tried giving it full access with Kaspersky, but I think the problem is the program itself. I tried with the normal version on their website, and it still didn't work.

I was trying to download a video from YouTube, but it just doesn't seem to work. I've tried other video downloader programs(the normal desktop versions)and all of them work, apart from DamnVid.

Just want to know is it just me(and XP) or do other people have similar problems with this software

Thanks

Stick to Low?

Submitted by moritz on February 22, 2012 - 3:05am

Hello people,

have the following problem:

I got a cheap 1GB stick given. On this all portable applications run smoothly.

I did then because of lack of space a 4 GB stick purchased, was the fastest I can find.
On this, the applications (eg SeaMonkey) do not run as well. Loading takes longer, and the websites, e-mail takes a long time to open folders.

Sometimes the program hangs for a few seconds altogether.

Problem of the stick? Have these changed twice already ...

What could be more?

Helpful answers would be nice,

Hello All,

Can any application be run within PortableApps or is it to be used only for programs that are already portable?

The program I would like to run w/n PortableApps is Real Studio (www.realsoftware.com). But to the best of my knowledge they do not have a portable version of their application.

Thanks,

Craig

Replacement cap for PortableApps Companion

Submitted by ASJ on February 19, 2012 - 12:50pm

The cap to my PortableApps.com Companion has become very loose. This flash drive has been my favorite since I received it and I use it daily.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can pick up some replacement flash drive caps? I have looked and apparently they aren't easy to find. You would think there would be a market for replacement caps with all the loose and lost caps in the flash drive world.

Thanks,

Al ... Smile

Trend Micro Announces HijackThis to Go Open Source - just wanted to share

I just saw on Majorgeeks.com, that Trend Micro has decided to make HijackThis Open Source. I used to love this program for combatting malware, though it has become dated. Hopfully, this will breath some new life into it. I would love to add this to the PA.com list of programs (when it gets released, that is).

The link to the actual announcement is at http://www.majorgeeks.com/story.php?id=33365. I hope it was ok to post this. If not, I apologize.

How do I turn off automatic updating of Skype?

Submitted by Timelord2067 on February 16, 2012 - 6:48pm

Greetings,

How do I turn off automatic updating of Skype Portable? Without asking me, Skype Portable silently downloads a new version of itself then proudly announces that it has installed said download without my permission. This is annoying as it clogs my connection for use on other tasks.

Mid-last year, I also had Skype Portable attempting to install itself onto the host computer that I was using which caused no end of grief.

(Before anyone asks just remember; not everyone is on 'all you can eat' internet connections)
