Flash drive dead, or...?

I suspect my flash drive might be on its way out, was wondering what others thought...

This past weekend, my CPU died. A good friend of ours who works with my wife was cool enough to go on eBay and order me another CPU (can't afford a new computer now) plus loan me a Dell he had just collecting dust. Said it had some strange things wrong with it but should be fine.

What would be required to make a truely portable app?

Submitted by Xeneth on April 15, 2010 - 11:43pm

I'm talking about it being able to go across platforms, rather Linux, Windows, or Mac.

I know it has to be 100% self reliant, or to pull from the resources that is common in all.

Java requires the Java libraries to be installed, which is true for almost all languages. You could probably try for something like java script to increase the likely hood the libraries are already there, but this is still not guaranteed.

Seems like a discussion that would be fun to explore, and it's a good place.

Protecting software with license keys?

Submitted by Quadrant-X on April 10, 2010 - 8:25pm

I have written some programs in C++ but need to find a way to "serial-protect them" and have keys that work for X days (like, "enter a valid serial for a one month, one year, or 2 year trial/use") Are there any free/open source or whatever methods to taking a single .exe file (I made them portable with ThinApp) and having the NSIS (or other extractor) prompt for a serial, and (for my part of the job, a key generator for my own software)? I need it (my generator/encryptor) to be able to activate the software for a given (preset) duration.

Hi guyz, see i'm new here at portableapps.com.
recently i try to create my own portable version of guitar pro 5 and encountered a problem with the codes. I'm not a programer, i'm an out of school youth just try'in out. this is what i wanted it to be; put the folder "data" from "$APPDATA\App\GuitarPro5" directory in "$APPDATA\App\DefaultData" directory and when i run the launcher it just can't move the "data" folder to "$APPDATA\App\GuitarPro5" directory.

Thank you all so much

Ever since i became aware or this highly wonderful website,i found alot of programs that simply can't be found anywhere else. The programs are just impressive and the people doing all the work are even more so. Thanks to you,i don't have to buy a laptop! I'm learning how to create my own portable apps and once i mastered the process,i will start contributing. My friends are totally impressed and are spreading the news of this website like wildfire. Anyway thank you all so very much!
