Removing file names

Submitted by wundrbee on March 23, 2007 - 5:21pm

Is there a way to remove the filename from the list without removing the files? I have added some portable apps not supported by portableapps.com and a couple of them have more than one executable. I'd like to have just the program executable show up in the program list, but not the others.

Possibility to Autorun PortableAppsMenu

Submitted by ranova on March 23, 2007 - 3:01pm

I discovered this site:
http://www.mcgrewsecurity.com/research/hackingU3/
which was tested on the sandisk u3
When you uninstall u3 and use the reinstall program, it grabs an ISO file and "burns" it as another partition so windows recognizes it as a CDROM.
This is the .iso it downloads:
http://u3.sandisk.com/download/apps/lpinstaller/isofiles/cruzer-autorun.iso

You can download that iso and use isobuster and extract the files, and this is what you get:
AUTORUN.INF
LAUNCHU3.EXE
LAUNCHPAD.ZIP

Thanks you are such a life saver

I'm an online college student and currently my laptop is in the repair shop. Processor is being replaced.

I love using Firefox and have been missing it. I heard of the Portable version and tried and I'm hooked. I have even downloaded some other programs to make my online learning more efficient till I get my laptop back.

I just wanted to say Thank You.

Even when I get my laptop back, I'm keep this portable apps just in case I even need them.

Alternative menu for PortableApps

Submitted by pmoore on March 23, 2007 - 12:36pm

I like the PortableApps suite, but I find the standard menu a bit limited. In particular, things I'd like to be able to do:

  • select which shortcuts appear (I know, this is due in the next version)
  • change the icon and/or description
  • choose the order of the menu items
  • include arguments to commands (for example, to run Java programs or scripts using a JRE/interpreter on the drive)
  • create submenus (Games, Office, Internet, etc...)

Changing File description in executable

Submitted by mohnkern on March 23, 2007 - 9:55am

I've created a directory underneath PortableApps, and installed a program there. The program appears in my menu, but just an icon, no description. The reason: There's no "Description" in the file attributes. Is there a way I can change the file discription attribute in a file? (File Properties brings it up, but won't let me change it.

Lyric Finder

Submitted by ozbodd on March 23, 2007 - 6:23am

I stumbled accross a standalone lyric tool that detected songs playing in Winamp and found the lyrics. But I can't find it now. Anyone know of a small no fuss program like that?

Thanks for the help
