Method to make Firefox portable!

Submitted by Mefisto on November 8, 2006 - 12:03pm

First excuse my bad english, I'm a schoolboy from germany.

I have found a way to make firefox 2.0R3 to the oficial firefox 2.0 without having any problems!!

Download the real Firefox 2.0 Application from the official Firefox site:

1. Download

2. Install the Downloaded copy of Firefox 2.0!

3. Copy all the files of the folder "/Programs/Mozilla Firefox"!!

4. Select the folder within the portable version of Firefox an past the copied files in the folder "/App/firefox"

5. Now you have got an up-to-date version of firefox 2.0 Portable

I don't know if this has been allready mentioned, and I don't want to be a "know-it-all", but in my opinion, if my method is working, you shouldn't waste your time in develope a better version! Take this and concnetrate on other aps!

Thought I'd share a little knowledge...

If you have a problem unmounting your device, try this:

Get Process Explorer from sysinternals.com
Run it.
On the main menu, Find -> Find Handle or DLL

If you have an external HD, search for \Device\KsecDD\
For a thumbdrive, \Device\

For ExHDs, \Device\KsecDD\ should give you every process that is using it. Note that not every process needs to be killed (and DO NOT kill rundll32), especially if you are using a school/work computer (certain programs acknowledge the device, but aren't using it). Common processes that lock your device (both thumbdrives and ExHDs) include explorer.exe (restart it), jusched.exe, and ctfmon.exe.

Janel: Java Native Executable / Launcher

Janel is a Java native executable and launcher for Windows. Launch your Java application just like other Windows executables. Choose console or non-console application, the location of the JVM, and other properties. The process name is same as .exe name.

Maybe we can let java applications running on Portable devices without JRE installed on the host PC.
