Games

Submitted by darknight670 on February 26, 2006 - 12:35pm

Is it possible to put games on a USB flash drive?
I was thinking about Wesnoth, Civilisation or an old Age of Empire.
If yes did I need to modify it or just install and deplace?

Submitted by DigeratiPrime on February 25, 2006 - 4:47pm

hey guys i know some people were interested in small and portable firewall, and i think ive found the answer. Winpooch is Free and OpenSource and can be configured as a firewall. I have posted a guide to Neowin and Msfn that shows how to block everything from connecting/listening to the internet and how to add firefox as an exception.

Today's Outtage (404 Errors)

My apologies for the recent outtage. It seems my webhost accidentally deleted a configuration file sometime after 8:30am today that made most of the site inaccessible. (404 errors) I was at the hospital all day and was not aware of it until 11pm tonight when I fixed the error.

Developers IRC?

Submitted by Thox on February 24, 2006 - 6:47am

Any developers available on IRC or similar to discuss NSIS scripting for portable apps? The main topics I'd like to discuss are RegRapper progress and the %USERPROFILE% environment variable.

I'm sitting in #portableapps on irc.freenode.net if is available. Perhaps an official channel would be helpful?

cmd-line Tools for Ejecting Usb Devices and managing Drive Letters / Mount points

Submitted by Torpedro on February 24, 2006 - 1:27am

Hi!
I just found a page with nice cmdline tools for ejecting (RemoveDrive), changing driveletter (ReMount) and deleting mountoints (DelMountPoint).
I'm evaltuating them at the moment but it looks like something i've been looking for some time (cmd-line and fast!).

Away for a few days

Just a note to all. I'm away for a few days due to an illness in the family. I will be posting infrequently (late night) and I was not able to do the 3 app releases I was hoping to do this week. I will get to them when I return.

UPDATE (Monday 2/27): I'll be returning on Wednesday and I'll post a note on status then. Thank you for the well-wishes.

John

PRE HTML element on this website

Submitted by Thox on February 22, 2006 - 5:49am

John, I'd recommend adding the <pre> element into the allowed HTML for the site and stop the bad use of stlyes you've got on <code>

<code> is for inline text, so I could put a short snippet of code in the middle of a line of text (e.g. echo "test";) and <pre> is for big blocks of preformatted text:

This text has lots of spaces in it,
but they won't show properly until John
allows <pre> elements on his website

I doubt it will be helpful anywhere outside this post, but the codefilter module is interesting, and it

UPX?

Submitted by gao0nline on February 21, 2006 - 10:45am

This may be a weird problem with my computer...

Whenever I try to open UPX.exe, a command screen pops up for ~.5 seconeds before closing again. If I try to keep it open by going to Properties and changing it, it opens and stays open. However, it doesn't work. Curious...

And I realize that this is a UPX problem, and not a portable apps problem, but I was hoping that someone could help me out. Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, I'm running XP Service Pack 2.

Scite and NSIS

Submitted by Thox on February 21, 2006 - 6:10am

I can't seem to get nsis.properties to do much in Scite. All the other languages work fine except this one. It's not showing in my languages menu and doesn't seem to affect the display of *.nsi files at all.

Strangely, Sc1 seems to load it's internal copy of nsis.properties, but won't use the copy in my Scite folder. i.e. I can't edit how it's displaying NSIS files.

Any ideas?
