Hi again,

NVU and Kompozer are kind of abandoned and old... and they have some issues with Win Vista.

Do you know about another portable open source html editor or that can be portabilized?

What's your opinion about Bluefish, Amaya and Xinha?

Comments are appreciated...

Piriform offering a U3 version of CCleaner but no portableapps.com version

Submitted by temp4746 on June 27, 2009 - 6:54am

Piriform started to offer a U3 version of CCleaner on their website (Click)

But their not offering any version for PortableApps.com (.paf)...
Obviously we can use any portable app with the PortableApps menu quite easily. (We can rename and remove icons to fix any mess we get to(redundant icons)).
But having a .paf format app is nicer.

...Jerks.

AppCompactor Compatibility

Submitted by malikor on June 26, 2009 - 10:03pm

I thought it would be helpful to create a list of programs that can be compacted using the PortableApps.com AppCompactor. I know that the PortableApps hosted here have been compacted prior to being posted. I was wondering if we could create a list of other programs that the AppCompactor can compress without negative effects (program won't launch after being compacted, etc.)

how to unmount

Submitted by momagnum on June 26, 2009 - 5:54pm

I am using a 4GB card (for now) with a Truecrypt container taking all but maybe 200mb. Using geek.menu with everything inside the encrypted container. When it launches, it start aMSN messenger and RocketDock. I want to have a program that will kill them, then the Portable apps menu, then un-mount the true crypt container and eject the disk. Is that possible?

Thanks

PAF.exe icons

Now that you're making the icons for all PAF.exe files look the same--the PortableApps.com favicon with a little USB stick--instead of the app icon, we're gonna wind up with a folder full of sameness icon-wise... just makes it somewhat harder to differentiate between what you're looking for and what you're not. (I'll have to resort to actually reading the names of the files now!) Mostly, though, it gives the impression that you think the app being in PAF format is more important than the app itself.

Not preferred... I'm just sayin'.

Issues with Library Computers when using NTFS

Submitted by gregnorris on June 23, 2009 - 4:53pm

I've had issues before with this but, I pretty much forgot about it when I got my own laptop. It seems that the computers at my College Library (and possibly others as well) don't like it when an external drive is formatted as NTFS. Before when I used these computers frequently I ended up reformatting the drive using a virtual machine I'd set up shortly before hand. Thing is I had to reformat again and I didn't have my VM setup to hand the job. The Drive is more than 32GB so the built in methods for Microsoft refuse to work.

Protecting a System using PortableApps

Submitted by Tamchiki on June 23, 2009 - 4:18pm

I want to be able to surf the internet without worry about the webpages downloading information onto my hard drive. I was wondering I using PortableApps could keep that from happening. My thought is that all the webpage information should be downloaded onto my flash drive rather than my hard drive. Am I understanding correctly how this works.
