Just a quick no0b question about what "makes" an app portable...

As EditPad is my texteditor of choice i have noticed that it has a "Save registry space by storing settings in an INI-file" setting.

Would i be able to install EditPad to my USB drive and use the INI-file setting to make it work as expected? It sounds a little to simple...

(BTW, I have no USB drive att eh moment...)

Hello, I need to know what are the lines's scripte to fix the language.
I explain, I'm french and I hate when my portablesofts use the local language when the local language is not french, and I want to know how I can fix the language with the launcher, then how can I do that.

What is the best USB stick to put on my keychain? It needs to be rugged and durable like the metal keys that accompany it on a keychain. I have had a Cruzer Micro 128 on my keychain for 2 years and it has done well. after 128, they changed the design and it does not look as durable.

Any suggestions?

Anyone find or modify a program to view PostScript files? I have GhostView, but I notice it writes to the Registry. ;-(

This is just an interesting thought (not a suggestion! :p). I'm an avid user of the GMail file server, and the GSpace FF extension. Thing is I don't have a real FTP server (I s'pose I'll have to Google one later). Going through the forums, I stumbled upon the DropUpLoad app again. Wouldn't it be awesome if we could cobble together a kind've hybrid of these two apps? I do have to check if GSpace is open source, but if we could take some code from FileZilla and append it with GSpace code, or create similar if they aren't compatible....*Wheels are starting to turn...* Hmmm...Do you guys think it could be done?

I stumbled upon something that Microsoft made available to the Windows 2000 and XP operating systems. There are two ways to ensure an application uses the correct .dll and .ocx files without having to register these files using the systems registry. The first is called DLL/COM redirection (windows 2000). The second is called side-by-side assembly (windows XP only).

To get to the point and then give details after, I've been able to use side-by-side assembly to successfully redirect ccleaner.exe to use the required .ocx and .dll files without registering them in the registry on my Desktop XP Pro.

I made a little script for myself to use on my USB stick:

- Shortcut in root of USB to start PStart
- After closing Pstart in de system tray it will close gaim and gmailnotifier in the tray (but this, of course, can simply be adjusted to your preferences)
- It will then start "Safely remove hardware"

All you have to do is NOT to move your mouse while it does its thing at closing and (for a safe removal) close all the other windows before closing pstart.
Also the last "enter" at remove hardware has to be done by the user.

Well, I was wondering what you guys think of it! (and especially how it can be made better)

Can anybody make a profile/instructions for making the newest version of PFF look like internet explorer? I have to use the old version hosted here in order to get it to look like IE.

I have just found out that JabberD is portable !

All I had to do is copy the cygwin1.dll into the jabberd folder !

Background:
I work as an IT consultant on customer sites, hence my dependance on portable apps !
It's quite common for me and my colleagues to be spread through a building using "spare" desks. Now I can run JabberD on my desktop and we can use portable GAIM to chat to each other.
This is not dependant on an external internet connection.

Only problem I see is when the jabberd moves to a new pc everyone has to re-register as the "host" has changed, not such a big deal.
