Firstly, I'm not even sure this is possible -

I would like to set up my windows 8 desktop PC at home as a VPN server, and then at college use my USB stick with portableapps on it to launch apps such as firefox, thunderbird etc, using the proxy/connection settings which will connect them to my home VPN, and then allow me to access the internet freely via this method. Is this even possible?

I was curious if the portable apps version of Firefox, Chrome, or Opera will run stored on a flash drive and attached to a Dell Wyse thin client laptop with the Windows Embedded Standard 2009 platform?

FBreader will not do the trick since it wants to insert a book into a manager or library. What I need is a simple, robust solution like Foxit for PDFs: I click on the ebook and it launches it, does not want to arrange it. (Or maybe I need to launch a separate file in FBreader as well as Calibre's ebook-viewer.exe.

Sadly, the ebook reader in Calibre crashes under a 40 MB .mobi, which otherwise works fine on my Kindle. Any other ideas?

I was wondering if there is a way to have the PA.c Suite find as you type. By this I mean if you have the PA.c suite open and you start typing "foxit", it will search the portable apps menu and find it right away without have to go to the "Search" | "Search Installed Apps" option.

I try to use stable ver.11 and beta 2 of ver.12, but unfortunately for all applications (e.g. Mozilla Thunderbird, Skype or Notepad++) platform gives me information about update but after click Next button message 'All your programs updated' appears but none of application was updated.

Thunderbird and Skype I update manually via download from site and install. Now I have problem with only Notepad++, but I think I'll have this issue with any applications.

Has anyone had recently ,during the last few days , experienced problems with updates of some of their apps ?

While I have add success with few of my updates, a lot of others (15 in total) gave me an error message after trying to connect to the server.

I use an external hard drive (NTFS) with a lot of PortableApps between 2 PCs , only these two (A and B).

I used windows 7 64x on both until recently have switched to windows 8 64x in both. Since then I have very serious problems with fundamental apps.
By connecting the disk in "A" coming from "B" gives errors when start an app ("unauthorized acess") or start apps as if it were the first time (rebuilds the configuration files).

In the worst case - Thunderbird - several mailboxes are with 0 KB.
